Chapter 133

Claire closed her eyes, angling her face upwards as tragic pulsed from her, joined in by the fae ting. The sky began to darker, leaving them in a false perpetual twilight.

“That’s good,” Marlow called out. “Keep it like this til we get ’em out.” Turning his attention back to Gregory, he said, “You can move now

“That’s nice,” the wampus cat purred without moving from his spot. Like hell he was going to do anything that stopped the fantastic chin sherbes Mixes Nope.

Marlow rolled his eyes and turned to Harry. “You’ll need to move things slowly, one at a time. The vampire has been without blood for a few days and releasing him too fast would be bad.”

“Harry work slow. Harry work good.”

Piece by piece, the sasquatch removed the rubble from atop Riaghaire until his body was finally uncovered. There was still a slab of concrete crushing his chest – keeping him pinned – but, other than that, he was almost without injury. As this happened, Gregory decided it would be safer to hang out by the witch.

Marlow pulled out a bag of blood from the satchel he’d brought along, tossing it to land near the vampire’s face. “You’re lucky. If that’d crushed you anymore to the left, your heart would’ve been obliterated,” the witch remarked off handedly before gesturing for Harry to remove the last of the rubble.

Gregory watched in awe as the moment Riaghaire’s chest was free the vampire began to heal at an alarming rate. Bones popped back into place and knit themselves together before muscle and sinew bloomed. This creature’s regenerative ability was insane. Had he really gone days without blood? How was this even possible?

More surprising than his ability to heal was the first thing he did wasn’t to reach for the bag of blood. Once his lungs had reformed, the first thing out of Riaghaire’s mouth was, “Where is she?”

“I told you the wolves got her, didn’t I?,” Gregory replied.

“Which wolves?,” the vampire demanded, voice raspy as he finally reached for the blood.

“Bluemoon.”

A low rumble came from the vampire. “Why didn’t you stop them?”

“Not our job,” Gregory sniffed as he began cleaning one of his paws. “Also, we can’t just up and leave as we please. We all answer to the boss, after all.”

“But she-”

Marlow interrupted with a harsh noise. “You’re the one who said you’d keep her from them, not us. You failed, so deal with it.”

Riaghaire glared at the witch as he sucked the last of the blood from the bag. Another one was pulled from Marlow’s satchel and tossed over. It was drained just as fast as the first.

The goblins, Dac and Lo appeared, bringing with them a bright orange jumpsuit with reflective strips and a hard hat. They didn’t say anything to Riaghaite other than to offer their spoils.

“Put it on. It’ll block the sun,” Marlow explained. “Make it quick, so Claire and the twins don’t overexert themselves.”

“How are you keeping the humans away?,” Gregory asked as they began to make their way out of the crater.

“Charms around the site are making them look away,” Marlow grunted, clearly unhappy at having to scramble around like a child on a playground and. with the busted machinery, not like they can do any work, anyway.”

“How long will they last? The charms.”

“Sunset.”

“Impressive. How long did it take you to whip those up?”
