REACHAIRE
*
Riaghaire found himself unable to talk about what he and Gaml had discussed profile. Though they’d never come out and explicitly said what they were, the vampire felt as though his growing suspicions had been confirmed by the a fun side effect of speakingenth an entity that wanted to keep a low
conversation itself.
As his gréine would say: fucking hell.
This new development meant he couldn’t go to her the moment the sun set and that both angered and reassured him. Angered because he did not want to waste any time getting her away from those damned beasts but reassured to know that he wouldn’t be forced to do it alone.
He stood in his usual spot at the bar, watching the other employees chat amongst themselves. He now understood why they were all there, why the entity had gathered them, and why Gaml kept their distance while simultaneously being near at hand.
They were all outliers, unwelcomed and unwanted by others of their own kind. This place was one that welcomed all, no matter their species, power, pust, preset… All were allowed in this space, until they were not. In return for this safe space protection. Normally this would only be true within the walls of Kaleidoscope but, when certain conditions were met, that protection could be applied
– a space they maintained for their boss – Gaml offered them the wherever an acolyte was located, regardless of distance.
At the moment, this was a boon for one such as Riaghaire. To have his safety assured by another was rare. The problem? Beings like Caml were fickle in nature and could just as soon become a detriment. Caution was advised.
“You need to think less.”
Riaghaire blinked and glance down at the witch, Marlow. “Is that so?”
“Yea. Some things shouldn’t be thought about too much,” the witch nodded. You’ll only make it worse for yourself if you do.”
The witch had a point but there were certain things that needed to be mentally dissected if he was to accept the reality of them. “I will take your words in consideration.”
Marlow let out a soft ‘heh’ as he shook his head. “I was told to ask you for something you’ll keep close at all times.”
“What do you mean?,” Riaghaire frowned, not understanding what was being requested of him
“I always wear these rings,” the witch explained, holding up his right hand to show the rings on his index and little finger. “Always. You got anything like
that? Or something you won’t be annoyed carrying around all the time?”
The vampire hesitated, then slowly nodded. “I have such an item…”
“Mind letting me borrow it for a while? I give you my word that I’ll return it as is.”
Riaghaire wasn’t sure if he trusted this witch and was loath to part with the item he had in mind. It was important to him, a reminder of many things and, more importantly, had been given to him by his gréine.
Slowly, he pulled a chain out from under his shirt, from which hung the key to his cell. After a moment’s hesitation, he slipped it over his head and held it out for Marlow. The chain had also been a gift from his gréine though it meant far less than the key itself. That key had been his salvation and she had risked far more than she knew to give it to him. She’d had no way of knowing he wouldn’t kill her the moment his cell was unlocked; even he had failed realized his desire for her hadn’t been about blood but something more. She’d been playing a dangerous game and was lucky to have made it out alive

As Marlow disappeared into the back rooms, Claire approached. “Looks like you bounce back fast,” she noted “Bea really want kidding when she told me
