Donovan gritted his teeth. Her first to questions of the hight had been bad enough that he half hoped they wouldn’t allow her any more. What was she going to pull out of her ass this time? How was she going to cause a stir?
As expected, Beatrice wasn’t one to follow convention. Instead of directing her final question to the Elders, she turned to face Alpha Hendricks, who grimaced once he realized he’d become her next target. “Te me, Alphass Fuckface McGee; just how much of what’s happened since my kidnapping have you chosen to keep secret from your Council of Seniles?”
Her obvious disrespect for both Alpha and Council had the crowd in a fit. Curiosity and excitement suddenly turned to outrage and still the human lonked unphased by it all. She simply stood there, giving her fated mate a wide, shit eating grin that reminded Donovan of the cheshire cat If he hade en ame better, he’d have thought she wasn’t human at all.
“Enough!” This time it was Ashcliff who shouted, lacing power into the word and forcing everyone present to settle down instantly. “I’ve had enough of this We’ve given this human far too much grace. She needs to tell us how she knows my son’s name itd then we will have her executed.”
“Oh, if that’s the case, then I’m definitely not going to answer the question,” Beatrice laughed, half turning to face the Elders.
Donovan gritted his teeth. He’d already been labeled a traitor – provisionally, anyway, but he knew the Elders would vote to make it permanent – so why wasn’t he speaking up? So what if they were more dominant than him; so what if they could force him to his knees? If a damn human can call them stupid and laugh to their face, what did that make him if he couldn’t be bothered to speak at all?
“They’ll torture you, Beatrice,” he forced himself to say, voice rough with suppressed frustration and anger. It was no wonder Beatrice hated wolves so much.
Stubborn fools.
“I’m aware,” she assured him without so much as a glance his way. “Can you imagine how pissed they’re gonna be when they can’t break a human? It’s
funny to think about.”
Had she gone insane? Alpha Donovan managed to turn his head enough to look at Beatrice, who finally glanced his way and winked. Did that mean was doing this on purpose? That he should play along? Or…?
He couldn’t fathom purposefully angering the Council of Elders. It was a death sentence. Except, she’d already been sentenced to death, so what and whe
have to lose?
“You will tell me what I want to know,” Elder Ashcliff snarled as he marched over to Beatrice and grabbed the lower half of her lace She noise as he lifted her off the ground.
A roar came from somewhere to Donovan’s right and suddenly Alpha Hendricks was attacking Elder Ashe lift the damn hot w
taking the air as the two wolves connected. The grip on Beatrice’s face inust have loosened because she dropped to the ground in a heap N to get away from the two brawling wolves.
“Alpha Hendricks,” Beta Benedict shouted as he reached in and somehow grabbed hold of his Alpha, only for Ashe lift to the trial
“Leave him,” Donovan told Benedict “It’s an Alpha. He must prove himsell”
“He said he didn’t want her,” Benedict snapped “Why did he attack?
“His wolf did. The mate bond is non negotiable to the wolf, Beta. Donovan explained Turd that bond is broken, his wall will do what must to keep
from harm.”
“Then why did he agree to the execution?!”
