CLAIRE

Claire hated herself. Not in an ‘I really need therapy’ kind of way, but for the fact she had fo ever loving low what she was

Fae? Check.

Witch? Check.

Elf? Yep.

Wolf? Guess that’s now a check, too.

Not that any of them mattered other than fae, since hybrids only had access to the ‘gifts’ of a single species – which species was chosen by lottery, or ve she was convinced. Genetics were complicated on a good day; add in multiple different species and it became a real clusterfuck.

She wished her parents, and their parents, and, hell, all her ancestors had just kept it in their pants instead of lusting after everyone and everything that walked by. It did make her wonder if some incubi or succubi had snuck into the mix but that was something she was fine never knowing one way or another.

Taking a breath, she led the group towards the lit amphitheatre. Bea said nothing, putting on her usual brave front, but it was obvious she wasn’t keen on returning to face the wolves who’d been so doggedly pursuing her for weeks. Claire, on the other hand, wanted to put an end to all this bullshit so she could get back to her normal – weird – life, thanks.

Having learned she was related to the wolf who’d dared lay hands on her friend meant Claire had no patience left for anyone. If they thought Bea was a terror, they were about to get a rude awakening because she was a lot like her friend; but with magic.

“Don’t go overboard,” Marlow muttered, causing Claire to give him a bland look. “What? I know that look on your face.”

“I’m not going to do anything that isn’t called for,” she retorted. “Besides, Riaghaire is the only one who gets to lay his hands on them.”

The vampire glanced her way and gave a small nod.

“I just noticed that you’re all in your work clothes,” Bea pointed out, sounding surprised. “What the hell? Are you here for work or something

“Riaghaire began, looking awkward “That is not… I am unsure how to respond without upsetting you

“No.”

I always fun when she gets uppity,” the other giggled. “The pay is a perk but we just want to have some fun. It’s always fun with Claire

The blond sighed as she stopped walking to turn and face her friend. “They like me cause I’m part fae and don’t care that they’re different from the rest of

their kind. It’s that simple.”

Ptyrese scrunched up her face and pouted. “We like who you are, Claire, not just that you’re like us.”

“Like you?” Bea asked.

“Unwanted or unwelcome by the fae,” Claire explained with another sigh. “Outcasts. Whatever you wanna call it. I don’t belong to any one species, which makes me an outcasts among outcasts. Don’t think about it too much. Can we get going? don’t want to be here all night.”
