Chapter 173

BEATRICE

The silence that greeted Claire’s proclamation made Beatrice proud; her friend had caught the Elders by surprise Her favourite part? The blond’s last name wasn’t Ashcliff – it was Aulenbeck. Twisting the truth to really throw the old fuckers for a loop was a play right out of her own handbook

Beatrice couldn’t be more proud.

“What did you just say?” Elder Blazethorn was looking a bit haggard after whatever had happened between the time Beatrice had snuck away and returned but her voice was steady, even if her clothes were dishevelled.

While Elder Blazethorn spoke, Asscliff was gaping at Claire like a fish – opening and closing his mouth without a sound – and it made Beatrice want to burst into laughter. She managed to hold it back, though barely.

“Who the fuck are you,” Claire repeated. She knew full well that wasn’t the part Blazethorn wanted repeated but no-one was complaining. Yet

“I’m Elder Blazethorn.”

Beatrice almost snorted. The Elder had thought she was being asked the question.

Claire shook her head. “You wanted to know what I just say. ‘Who the fuck are you’ was it. I don’t care who you are, just the moustached moron.”

“Moustached moron,” sputtered Elder Asscliff, as though the insult was comparable to any of the ones Beatrice had already come up with. It wasn’t a bad name for him, sure, but it wasn’t great.

“He’s your great-great…something granddad? Eider Pompous Asscliff,” Beatrice offered, since it was obvious the man was unable to answer the question

himself.

“Really? You sure? He’s not much to look at…”

“You…!” More sputtering came from the pompous ass as the other Elders gathered near him. The two remaining giant wolves stood between the two groups, teeth barred at the non-wolves or, non-full-wolves, since one of their group had some wolf blood. Did they honestly think they could stop Raghaire Twa

doing whatever he pleased?

“Seems 1 was right all along.” Elder Bluemoon looked almost giddy as he spoke. “Elde. Ashcliff’s son disowned his family and left the p

Chapter 173-

“Well Elder Briarwood,” Claire began, turning to face the Elders. “What makes you think you can order me around? You’re just some old hag clinging to the glory of the past. You lord over others, thinking it makes you better than them wher, in reality, it just makes you look pathetic

“I apologize on behalf of the Council Elders,” the bearded Elder suddenly spoke up as he took half a step forward.

“Bea?”

“Uh… That’s Moonbow, I think. He seemed decent though he voted for my execution, so fake from that what you will.”

A grimace plastered itself on Moonbow’s face. “It seems we may have been hasty in that regard.”

“Hasty because you’re now forced to pay the price for choosing execution, or hasty because you actually didn’t agree with it in the first place but were ton much of a coward to speak up?,” Claire demanded as she leaned forward just a little.

One of the giant wolves pounced but the blond snapped her fingers, activating the ward she’d been silently weaving since they’d arrived at the stage. The wolf stuck it with a resounding ‘thump’. Beatrice grinned at her friend, both impressed by the forethought and the satisfaction she felt at hearing the sound of a wolf smacking its face against an invisible wall.

“Nice try, Fluffy. If you do that again, I’ll strip every wolf here of their ability to shift. Capeesh?” This was’t exactly true. Could Claire prevent someone from shifting? Yes, but Beatrice had recently learned it took days to weave that particular spell, layering it over and over again, until it was strong enough to stop even ån Alpha from shifting.

“You’re bluffing,” snapped Briarwood, looking horrified.

“I’m the one who weaves the protections at Kaleidoscope,” Claire explained as she crossed her arms over her chest. “I can, and have, prevented wolves from shifting. Ask the idiot who thought he could force Bea into submission.”

All eyes shifted to stare at Hendricks, who had recovered enough to stagger back to his feet. Benedict had to help his Alpha stay upright as the man looked like he’d been put through a wood chipper. Beatrice didn’t think it was a bad look for him – Hendricks, that is – and ignored the twinge of worry that wormed its way into her heart.

“What is it you want?”Elder Bluemoon looked and sounded like the calmest of the seven Elders, his tone curious, not demanding.

“Bluemoon,” Beatrice told the blond without needing to be asked. “The only one who voted against my execution. He seems more chill than the st them, even though he’s related to Fuckface.”

“Does that mean he’s above the idiot in the pecking order?,” Claire asked.

“Uh I’m not sure?”

Turning to Elder Bluemoon, Claire posed the question for his to answer “Would Alpha Bluemoon be forced to do as anderst il you command

“Well that’s too bad,” Claire sighed “You see, we aren’t leaving until he rejects Bea And before you protest, know that the alternative icht Rough to have some fun with anyone that catches his eye”

“You won’t get away with this,” Asschill snarled “My son was weak, tailing for some stupul human You got air even werker with your disgusting moved
