Chapter 21
BEATRICE
“After tonight’s ceremony, I’m sure you’ll understand better,” Alise assured Beatrice with a smile. “We’ve all been waiting for Alpha Hendricks to find his fated mate and here you are. It’s going to be a huge celebration. That reminds me, we really need to pick out which dress you’ll be wearing.”
Beatrice wanted to scream in frustration. These fucking people didn’t understand what ‘no‘ meant! Where was a dictionary when you needed one? She wanted to shove it in everyone’s face and force them to read the definition out loud.
As there were no such books available, she decided to take matters into her own hands think ‘no‘ meant ‘please walk all over me‘.
or words, if you will and educate the poor bastards who dared
“Let me try this a different way,” Beatrice began, keeping her tone light, almost airy. “I would rather marry Riaghaire and live the rest of my life in the dungeon than so much as catch a glimpse of your AlphASS Hendricks. Do you understand?. I am not going to take part in arry ceremony. I am not his mate. How can I explain this to get it through your thick head? I can dumb it down a lot more if it’s still too complicated for a wild mutt to understand.”
Was she purposefully pushing all the buttons? Yep. Did she have any regrets? Not a single one. Regret was an ‘after the fact‘ thing and, at the moment, she was feeling rather smug.
Watching Alise’s face contort in shock, then anger, before she was able to get her emotions under control brought Beatrice immense satisfaction. Could the maid wipe the floor with her like a mop? One hundred percent. Was Beatrice worried? A little bit, but that was like regret – something to deal with later.
“I understand what he did to you was wrong, but he’s an amazing man and Alpha.”
“He wouldn’t have done it if he was such an ‘amazing man and Alphass‘,” Beatrice shot back, unimpressed at the weak defense.
“You aren’t attracted to him at all? He’s handsome. Tons of she–wolves have fought for his attention over the years but he’s refused them all just to wait for you his mate.”
“That’s a ‘him‘ choice. He chose to do that, not me. He can choose one of them as his ‘Luna‘ for all I care. And what do his looks have to do with anything? He’s an entitled asshole who thinks everything he wants should just be handed to him. There isn’t a single ‘handsome‘ thing about that.”
“If you’d give him a chance I know you’d grow to love him.”
“Like how he gave me a chance to decide for myself if I wanted anything to do with all this? Yeah, sure, let me get right on that.” Beatrice’s sarcasm was on point today and she was rather proud of herself.
“Just give him a chance to make it up to you,” Alise pleaded.
“You are all insane morons,” Beatrice said with a sneer. “Because of his rank, he can get away with rape and force me to be with him because that’s what he
wants.”
“It’s what the Moon Goddess wants,” the maid yelled, finally losing her temper. “You can’t just turn your back on the gifts She gives you.”
“Fuck your Moon Goddess,” Beatrice shouted in response, knowing the moment the words left her mouth she’d gone to far, and yet she still pushed forward. In for a penny and all that. “What about my god? Just because your Moon Goddess went to Alphass Hendricks and said ‘here is your mate,‘ doesn’t mean I have to do anything because she isn’t MY god. It would be like me coming to you and saying, ‘so, yeah, my god said you’re my mate, so now you have to be with me forever, Alise.“” She was conveniently forgetting the fact she had no religious beliefs, as it wouldn’t help her argument. No one needed to know
about that.
