Take Me Once, I’ll Bleed You Twice

Chapter 222

BEATRICE

:

like it had happened the sense

Beatrice wasn’t sure what to say after Riaghaire had stopped talking. He spoke as if detached but she had a feeling that was just his way of protecting himself from whatever emotions had bubbled to the surface

The fact he’d been married, and a father, had been a surprise. The more Beatrice thought about it, though, the stupider ht grown man, born in a time when people married young; of course he’d had a family. She should be surprised he hadn’t larmedeg

children instead of just the one.

There was still a twinge of jealousy at the thought of him loving another woman – and the way he’d spoken about the wife me remember confirmed it. This was just as stupid as her not fully grasping he’d had a life before being Turned.

Beatrice wasn’t going to allow herself to be jealous of a dead woman. Why should she? Only one of them was alive, therefore she her nothing to be jealous over. Riaghaire wanted to be with her now, in the present, and that was all that mattered.

With that out of the way, Beatrice refocused her thoughts. His story had answered a few questions she’d been wanting to ask. “So when Master Bitch accused you of being an impostor, she was both right and wrong.”

Riaghaire gave a slow nod. He’d stopped stroking her arm and was now holding her rather loosely – his way of saying, ‘I expect you to leave now that you know my horrible past and I won’t hold you back’. It frustrated Beatrice that he did this every time she learned

especially if it involved the darker side of being a vampire. anything new about him

Was she bothered by his past? In some ways yes but, in other ways, no. What was done, was done; he was no longer the person he’d been and people were allowed to change.

Change was inevitable, after all.

“The vampire who made you must have been the original Riaghaire,” Beatrice continued, since it didn’t seem like he was going to say anything. “And he was like you – in control of himself, I mean.”

Another nod followed by, “Yes.”

“You said it felt like you were forced to obey him, right?”

“Yes.”

“How did you break his hold on you? Or is that normal between Master and fledgling? Does it just break once the baby vampire leaves the

nest?”

A short silence greeted her question. “It is there until the Master breaks it or the fledgling grows stronger than the Master. As to how I broke his hold… I killed him.”

Chapter 222

“… Okay, yeah, that doesn’t surprise me.” Beatrice told him with a light laugh “But couldn’t be kaa were you able to break his control over you? Or I guess you had to wait until you were stronger than

“That is… It was not long after I was Turned that the invisible hands ceased being able to force my submittin

not that I defied my Master once I realized he had no control over me continued to could ignore their demands for a number of decades before ending his existence.”

“What made you turn on him?,” she asked, propping herself up on Riaghaire’s chest again so she could watch his face

His eyes met hers then looked away as though he was ashamed of his past. To him, being a vampire was shameful and the p done as one were unforgivable. And yeah, Beatrice wasn’t so naive as to think there weren’t plenty of things he’d done that rule man her want to run for the hills if he were still the same person. In her mind, the Riaghaire of the past was not the same person an

Riaghaire of the present.
