Chapter 239

COOPER

As much as Cooper had no interest in being Alpha, he also wasn’t keen on having ‘Luna’ as his title. What others thought of him rarely mattered but didn’t mean he wanted to hear their snide comments on a male wolf having a she-wolf’s title. It would also reflect badly on his mate – on Avery – if

couldn’t respect him as… whatever he’d be.

“Lunis,” Avery answered, a shy smile on her face. “And your responsibilities wouldn’t be the same as a regular Luna anyway, so having the same title

wouldn’t work.”

“…then what would my responsibilities be?” He was relieved he wouldn’t be in charge of getting the ranked she-wolves together to discuss whatever ti were suppose to discuss. Events? Family things? It had been so long since he’d had to think about this kind of thing that his brain had seemingly purg

what information he may have once known.

“Not sure. Dad is figuring things out as he goes, which is what will happen when I assume the role. No-one knows what having a she-wolf as Alpha wil like, or what my short comings might be. As Lunis, your job would be to make up for those in whatever way you see fit.”

In essence, that was the Luna’s job. The problem was that Alphas were males who’d been raised in a specific way – their short comings were generally same across the board. Which meant she-wolves favoured learning only what was seen as important, making up for those short comings. The more Coop thought about it, the more he realized things had almost been designed in a way to prevent change from happening. It was an endless cycle of the same problems, the same fixes, perpetuated by people who never bothered to see any other way of living.

The prospect of forging their own path – together – was enticing. Cooper had always felt like he didn’t fit anywhere, that his way of thinking and doing things was wrong or, at least, net quite right. With Avery taking the role of Alpha, there would be challenges to overcome that those before her hadn’t needed to face. To be by her side, heiping clear the way for her to be the best Alpha she could be… it was possible his way of thinking could come in har

“Avery…,” he trailed off, feeling awkward. Still raw from having to remember what he saw as his failure to be who he’d been born to be. Cooper was hesit to put himself out there for fear of being slapped back. “You haven’t really… said anything about what I said. Before. About… what happened to make me

lone wolf.”

“I didn’t?” She looked surprised, then thoughtful. “I figured saying I still didn’t see a reason to reject you covered that

Cooper stared at his mate for a long moment, his brain working hard to process the words she’d said. “Oh.” Not his best work but nothing wore was

to mind.

“What happened back then made you into who you are today,” Avery told him with a smile, making his heart rate pick ups “Which you to bum my fated mate. I’m not really sure what you want me to say.”

As he watched, his mate made herself all the more comfortable on his couch, as if it was exactly where she belonged I somehow seated something on Cooper, which in turn gave rise to other feelings ones he’d been hard at work ignoring for nearly two weeks

She’d accepted him so easily, his not wanting to be an Alpha, his first mate rejecting him because of it she was actually got it had happened, I hu vedn understanding things correctly, because led him to being her mate

Avery wanted him as he was now and not who he should have been

Before he realized it, Cooper had closed the distance between them One of his hands cited her waist while the other cupped her face in the split second before bis lips found hers in a fierce kiss

Caught by surprise, Avery didn’t react for a second before melting into his touch, returning his kiss with far more passion than he’d expected. As he made to
