Chapter 41
BEATRICE
:
While Riaghaire showered, Beatrice walked around the house, drawing curtains closed and blinds down to prevent the rising sun from causing problems. This made her wonder if vampires slept during the day or if they hide in a dark hole to wait out the sun. She should ask him when he was finished in the bathroom; it would good to know if she should make a bed for him or not.
On the second floor, after finishing with the windows, she stopped in her mom’s room. The closet was as neat and tidy as the rest of the house – compulsively so which made finding what she was looking for easy.
Two boxes, stored on the top most shelf and pushed into the farthest corner, were what Beatrice wanted. It took her a few minutes to get them out, making a mess of everything else on the shelf as she did so. Inside were her dad’s old clothes. He’d done the proverbial going to get milk at the corner store‘ run and never came back. She’d been eleven. Wherever he was and whatever he was doing now Beatrice had long since stopped wondering. What did it matter?
He’d abandoned them and her mom’s mental health went into a downward spiral, leaving Beatrice to deal with it herself. It had ruined the way she saw both of her parents and now she had her own issues because of it; such as her dislike of authority and not doing as she was told if she disagreed. It might be why she’d reacted so hatefully to Alphass Hendricks and his henchmen. They’d tried to control her. force her into submission, and she’d spent many years building her willpower up to the point she was able to stand in front of a werewolf and call him names. To his face. Multiple times.
Yeah… she should probably see someone about her… over–enthusiam in that context. Something to deal with another day.
Beatrice fished out a few different shirts, pants, and anything else that might be useful for the vampire, before returning the boxes to where they belonged. Tidying the shelf until it looked as it had took another couple minutes. When she finally left the room she was pretty sure she’d done a decent job. Her mother would notice and complain, but that would have happened regardless.
Back downstairs, she set the clothes in front of the bathroom door before knocking twice. “I put some clothes just outside the door for you. Hopefully they fit better than those pants.”
She didn’t bother waiting for a response before turning and leaving to hunt down a broom. Riaghaire’s hair was still all over the kitchen floor and that would definitely cause her mother to go off if left there. Beatrice swept it up, filling the small kitchen trash can with it Sighing – she really didn’t feel like being a responsible adult she removed the bag and brought it outside to throw in the hea that would be wheeled out to the curb on garbage day.
This was exhausting. All she wanted to do was go to bed and sleep forever. Was that so much to ask? Instead, she had to make sure
and that her mom wouldn’t hunt her down for leaving the house a ‘mess‘ Oh, he deserved that much Riaghaire was taken care of and eat, she was starving
Food would be an easy fix. Beatrice opened the freezer and noted the neatly stacked frozen meals. Her mother hated cooking. It was too messy and you always made too little of too much, which resulted in more mess A vicious cycle that was fixed by purchasing prepackaged, frozen meals in a box. Whatever helped prevent the woman from having another breakdown was fine by Beatrice, especially if it meant she could have a mini lasagna after seven minutes.

She finished her five star meal and cleaned everything up. A quick glance around the kitchen, to make sure things looked as they should, had Beatrice breathing a small sigh of relief. Chances were good her mom would find some stray hair she’d missed. This would result in an angry phone call… Wait. How was her mom suppose to call her, when her phone was still at the pack house?
A smile threatened to overtake Beatrice’s face at the thought of Hendricks answering the call and her mom chewing him out. The woman was of the opinion all men were assholes, and finding out some guy had her daughter’s phone? God, she hoped the Alphass let slip the whole mate nonsense. That would really fire her mom up nice and good.
There was nothing else for her to do now as she waited for Riaghaire to finish in the bathroom. She planned on taking her own shower after he finished, so changing out of her ruined dress had to wait.
What was taking him so long, anyway? Maybe he was enjoying his first shower in decades, Beatrice supposed as she wandered in the living room and sat on the couch, uncaring if she dirtied the fabric. Her mom would just have to deal with it. If she hadn’t bathed in a week, she would take the longest, most luxurious bath or shower, so the fact he’d been in there for over twenty minutes wasn’t that
surprising.
