had me kidnapped I’d still have my apartment, my job, my life, and wouldn’t even know vampires existed,”
There was a moment of silence before he replied. “What are you talking about…? Of course I care.”
54
“No,” she snapped. “No, what you call ‘care‘ is actually control. What you want is for me to sit pretty by your side and do exactly what you say. That’s not caring about someone, not even remotely. I want nothing to do with you, Hendricks. Nothing. I’d rather spend the rest of my life with Riaghaire than another second with you.” Beatrice’s words gave her pause. She hadn’t spoken them just to cause pain to the werewolf, but because they were the truth. She had no qualms about spending the rest of her life in the company of a vampire. Weird. Then again, anyone was better than Hendricks, so was that really such a surprise?
“Beatrice… please. Why can’t you understand how I feel?”
“Why can’t you understand how I feel?,” she countered. Why was everything always about him?
“What do you mean?”
She let out a sigh in frustration. “Exactly that. The fact you have to ask is part of the problem. I’ve already told you I don’t know how many times why I want nothing to do with you, and you can’t seem to get it through your thick skull. I will never be with you. I will never be ‘yours‘. You need to leave me alone.”
Something in Hendricks changed. It was as if she could feel his emotions go from worried to something… less kind. “I see… So the vampire has gotten to you.”
Oh for the love of… why was this guy so fucking dense? “No–one has gotten to me,” she assured him. “Not you, not Riaghaire, not anyone. Do me a favour and just go the fuck away.”
“I won’t abandon you, Beatrice. I’ll find you and bring you home
–
you have my word.”
“I don’t want that,” she shouted at him. “You took my home away from me; you don’t now get to decide where it is now. Fuck your damn mate bond to hell. I want nothing to do with you, Hendricks Bluemoon.”
He embraced her again, holding her tightly, but Beatrice was no longer confused, no longer willing to let it happen without fighting back
“I said no,” she screamed, pushing him away. To her surprise, he went flying. How had she done that? She was human, and humans didn’t have that kind of strength.
