Beatrice glanced down at her hands but she didn’t have any. How was that possible? It felt like she had hands but they were nowhere to be seen. Actually, none of her body seemed to be there. Then it hit her; was this the mate bond? Tweedledick had said she and Hendricks would be able to communicate through it once it was complete. Did that mean she was now stuck with this asshole forever? What about if she found someone, or something, to form a pact with? Would it still be able to break the bond?
Now that she knew what she was dealing with, Beatrice closed her eyes – metaphorically speaking – and concentrated on that alien presence in the back of her mind. It had grown in size, pulsing with thoughts and emotions that weren’t her own. He’d broken through while she slept, the asshole, and taken advantage of her in yet another new way.
The guy really had no shame.
As he had previously, Hendricks fought against her squeezing the bond until it was nothing more than a tiny blip in the back her Next time, she should do this from the get go, since talking to him was like holding a conversation with a brick wall. He never listened never tried to understand, and she was done repeating herself. Same shit, different day.
Without his overwhelming presence in her mind, Beatrice found herself feeling empty, as though something was missing. She frowned. wondering why that was; it couldn’t be the mate bond, could it? Had it begun to affect her more? Fucking hell.
She woke with a start, eyes flying open as she gasped as if in need of air.
Riaghaire was standing over her, a worried look on his face. Upon seeing she was awake, he was suddenly by the open door. “I apologize for intruding, however… you were shouting in your sleep.”
Sitting up, Beatrice ran her hands over her face a few times. She was shivering though the room was warm. The feeling of emptiness was still there. What was happening to her? “I just had a bad dream,” she explained once she’d calmed herself down a little. “What time is it?” Since she still felt tired, it was probable she hadn’t been asleep for long.
“It is just after the noon hour.”
Later than she expected. Probably for the best, as there was no chance she would be going back to sleep any time soon. The thought of the Alphass forcing his way into her brain a second time was more than enough to keep her from nodding off. At least she’d gotten a good five hours in. That should hold her for a while.
Beatrice threw back the covers and got out of bed. Riaghaire still stood by the door, watching her as she stretched. “I’m not going to get any more sleep for a while,” she told him, thinking he must be wondering why she was getting up.
“I see,” he nodded, still not moving.
She watched him for a moment, then tilted her head to the side. “Riaghaire?”
“Yes?”

Chapter 42
Why? What was her goal? Did she not understand that, should he find out her intentions weren’t in his best interest wer
to take her life?
Riaghaire frowned at his reflection. No… that wasn’t right. He hadn’t been able to take her blood when she & willing Mered it to him. He had intended to drink from her, to partake in the exquisite smelling meal just under the surface of her tender som and yet the harder
been able to do more than stare.
Stare at the mark that marred her otherwise perfect flesh. A mark that meant she belonged to someone else. Perhaps that was with the hadn’t been able to sink his fangs into her? The smell of that bastard had mingled with her own, and would have undortedly named the taste of her blood. Yes. What other explanation could there be?
He paused for a moment, cocking his head to one side. There was another possibility. He remembered how he’d thought of ser
and wondered if there was more to it than that. What did Beatrice returning to release him from his cell say of her own thoughts” Her intentions? She had even done it without being asked and expected a trifle in return for her actions. Crash the ceremony? Ha He fathom how she thought that was of equal value to his freedom.
