The human wanted him to stay close? To keep her safe from the mate she so despised? Perhaps his luck was turning, after decades of having none at all. Even though she asked this of him for her own safety, her own freedom, and not because she wanted Riaghaire himself, the favour would give him time to better understand the woman. And, perhaps, to better understand his own attraction to her.
Yes, she was pleasing to look upon and what she had shown of her personality was enticing… however, everyone held their true nature in check when around others. He was careful not to cross a line with the human.
