Chapter 54
Claire stared at the mark for a second before reaching over and touching it, as if to verify its authenticity. “What the fuck… Wolves don’t take human
That’s… it weakens their blood.
“They do if they’re convinced I’m their fated mate, Beatrice replied, letting her shirt settle back as it should.
“…what…”
“You heard me. Some Alphass decided I’m his fated mate and had me kidnapped.”
“…Alphass?” Claire repeated, sounding like she wanted to laugh.
Beatrice started from the beginning, explaining the first interaction with Hendricks at the café, all the way until her and Riaghaire had gotten into the that evening. She left out the finer details, keeping to the broader picture for the sake of time.
“…okay… I have to admit… I may have jumped the gun on the vampire,” Claire finally relented with a sigh. “I still don’t trust him but, from the sound he’s the reason you got out.”
“One hundred percent. And he’s under the impression he owes me some huge debt because of it.”
“He’s not wrong.”
Beatrice shook her head. “We got each other out. That makes us even.”
“In a normal world, sure,” Claire agreed, ieoking bothered. “But that’s not how it works with… other species.”
“What do you mean?”
Claire shifted a bit in her seat as she played with her fingers. “Anyone born of magic – like vampires, fae, merfolk, elementals – can’t ignore a debt onc been acknowledged.”
Merfolk? Elementals? Beatrice wanted to pounce on those topics but understanding what this debt meant to Riaghaire was more important at the mome “Okay, but he’s already paid it back.”

“No, he hasn’t. Bea. Ryan is a vampire. If you hadn’t freed him, he would have spent an eternity in that cell, Claire explained, giving b. friend a pleading look. “Vampires don’t die they can’t die unless someone kills them. Even if they stopped feeding him, he’d live on, it w he’d probably lose his mind in the process, but he’d technically still be alive.”
“Okay…”
Claire let out a sigh. “I can’t even think of something to compare this to, so you’d understand how by what you did was to him I guess. For all the years he’d been kept locked up, plus all the year, he can now spend free
which, remember, is literally forever
that toral is what he believes is owed to you.”
“…that’s insane. Besides, he got me out, too, so doesn’t that consel out at least the future years? He saved me from spending my life with some guy I want to punt into the sun.”
A chuckle came from Claire as she shook her head “I mean, yeah, sure But you’ll live, like, what, another sixty of seventy years? Take that oft his remaining infute years and that’s what’s still left for him to repay.”

BEATRICE
Beatrice was cut off from taking more shots after she asked for a fourth.
“You need to stay sober, Bea,” Claire explained with a frown.
“You know I’m not a lightweight,” Beatrice complained, poking the bar top with a finger. “I can handle my quor just fine.”
“I’m aware, but that doesn’t change anything. What happens if you get tipsy and the local Alpha makes an appearance, hmm?”
Beatrice let out an exasperated sigh. “Okay fine. How about a mixed drink? I promise I won’t chug it.”
Claire shook her head but did as requested. A minute later, she placed a bright blue drink in front of her friend. “You need to make this last at least a
Bea, because you’re cut off until then.”
Rolling her eyes, Beatrice said, “Okay, Mom.”
“And for you,” her friend continued, placing a pitch black wine glass in front of Riaghaire. With a flourish, she dropped a metal straw in it. “So you dar
cause problems.”
The vampire raised his brow in surprise. “I thank you,” was all he bothered to say before picking up the cup and giving it a quick sniff. He hummed a l before taking a drink.
“Well?” Claire inquired.
“It is… not bad.”
Beatrice was watching, curious about what was in the cup. “Is that blood?“/She finally asked, unable to stop herself.
“It is,” he replied, glancing her way. “Is that an issue?”
