Chapter 19 A Separate Ride
Since Isaac was so eager to play the generous one, he could do the daily rides himself.
After all, she was his dear little sister, wasn’t she?
Isabella got straight into the car waiting for her.
It was the one Isaac had arranged for her the night before.

That morning, as soon as Isabella got up, a servant had given her the details about the vehicle and the driver.
When Isabella stepped into the car, Hannah stood there with teary eyes, looking pleadingly at Isaac.
Isaac himself frowned slightly, massaging his temples with a hint of a headache, and said in a low voice, “Fine, you can ride with me for now.”
His brow was furrowed as he asked seriously, “Why did Jacob ask for leave at a time like this?”
Isaac looked puzzled.
Usually, drivers for the Powell family were supposed to report any leave requests to the butler. The butler would arrange a replacement before the driver was cleared to go.
What was so urgent for Jacob?
Why couldn’t he wait even a moment?
He’d gone straight to Hannah to ask for time off.
“I told Jacob not to bother you about it,” Hannah mumbled. “I thought we could manage even if he took some time off.
“You know Jacob’s been with me for a long time.
“If something came up with his family, I wanted to help him out.

At this point, her eyes reddened and tears began to fall. “Besides, I thought since my sister and I go to the same school, we could just share one car from now on.
“Isaac, did I think wrong? Did I upset Isabella?”
Hannah spoke through tears that fell like beads.
“It’s fine,” Isaac said, though his frown deepened and he felt a wave of irritation.
Based on what Hannah was saying now, the old him would’ve lost his temper, convinced Isabella was deliberately making things difficult for Hannah and embarrassing her.
But after what happened at breakfast in the dining room, his perspective had shifted.

Chapter 19–Separate Ride
Finished
He thought, since Isabella had finally returned to the farnily, she’d naturally want her own dedicated car.
Remembering how Isabella had walked down the hill alone yesterday afternoon and even ran into those troublemakers–even if she was just standing up for someone, it was dangerous.
At that thought, he frowned seriously and said firmly, “Let Jacob take care of his business first. While he’s on leave, we’ll have another driver cover his shifts.
“Otherwise, what kind of message does it send–young lady of the Powell family having to share a ride just because a driver is on leave? That’s not how things should be done.”
His voice was cool and resolute.
He wouldn’t blame Hannah or Jacob over this, but if Jacob had personal matters to attend to, someone else could step in temporarily.
After all, what was the point of always squeezing Hannah and Isabella into one car?
Put bluntly, if Jacob didn’t come back, were Hannah and Isabella supposed to keep sharing a ride indefinitely?
Since when did any family operate that way?
Without hesitation, Isaac instructed his staff to find another driver to cover Jacob’s duties for the time being.
Hearing Isaac’s orders over the phone, Hannah bit her lip hard, her jaw tight.
She had deliberately arranged for Jacob to be away, hoping to claim Isabella’s dedicated car for herself.
That way, Isabella’s car would become hers–to use and assign as she pleased.
Eventually, even Isabella wouldn’t be able to command it herself.
Meanwhile, Hannah would effectively have two cars at her disposal.
But now, Isabella’s reaction and Isaac’s response had thrown off her plans.
Isaac hadn’t scolded Isabella or ordered her to let Hannah ride along.
In Hannah’s original plan, Isabella would have reluctantly agreed under pressure from Isaac.
But Isabella had simply refused outright,
Not only that, Isaac hadn’t even gotten angry.
In the past, he would’ve insisted Hannah ride with Isabella, leaving Isabella no room to refuse.
Hannah felt deeply frustrated.
