Chapter 18 The Car That Wasn’t Hers

And yet she had watched with satisfaction as Isabella struggled to swallow the grits, then said in a strained voice, “It’s good!”
While Hannah was feeling inwardly flustered, Isaac, sitting beside her, furrowed his brow and turned to Isabella. “Take your time eating. If there’s anything else you like, just let Mary and the others know.”
His tone was uncharacteristically gentle.
Clearly, he was also feeling guilty about what had just happened.
On one hand, he thought that if Isabella never spoke up about what she liked, how were they supposed to
know?
On the other hand, he felt that they really hadn’t paid enough attention to Isabella and had neglected her for way too long.
As a result, his expression and demeanor came off as particularly stiff, and even his words of concern sounded cold and awkward.
When he spoke, Isabella responded flatly, “Mm.”
She was only speaking up for the wrongs the original host had suffered.
As for herself–did she really think the Powell family could make her miserable?
What a joke.

After finishing the grits, Isabella left Powell Villa.
Isaac didn’t scold her. Instead, he followed close behind, his tone unusually soft and relaxed. “Don’t be nervous when you get to Westbrook Academy later.
“If anything feels off, just say something when you get home.”
He looked somewhat awkward.
Normally, at times like this, his reminders to Isabella would have been about not acting recklessly at Westbrook Academy, being careful, not embarrassing the Powell family, avoiding trouble with others, and handling any issues properly.
“Mm,” Isabella responded flatly again.
She lowered her gaze slightly, focusing on the activity on her phone.
It was still early–only 7:30 in the morning, not yet time for the market to open–so Isabella didn’t have any active trades to manage.
She simply turned off the automated trades she’d set earlier, then looked straight ahead, waiting for the

Isaac felt unsettled by Isabella’s indifferent attitude.
Just as he was about to say something, Hannah hurried up from behind, slightly out of breath. “Isaac, Isabella, wait for me!”
Hannah lowered her gaze, taking in the harmonious scene of Isaac and Isabella standing together. An involuntary pang of jealousy stirred inside her.
She paused, then said, “Isabella, can I ride with you later?
“Jacob had some family stuff come up and asked for time off yesterday.
“He won’t be back for a while.
“During this time, I might need to ride with you to school.
“You don’t mind, do you?”
Hannah wore a look of nervous anticipation.
In truth, her nails dug into her palms.
She had heard yesterday that Isaac and their father had arranged a personal driver and car for Isabella.
How could this be?
She had originally heard that Isabella had gone out without permission yesterday and had been seen with some troublemakers, which had made Adrian, as well as Isaac and their father, furious for a long time.
She had thought Isabella would get yelled at and punished.
Instead, their father and Isaac were even giving her a car.
At this thought, Hannah clenched her hands even tighter.
She forced a smile and said to Isabella, “Isabella, please, just for this period, okay?
୮
‘We’re going to and from school together anyway, so we can keep each other company.”
She clasped her hands together, putting on a humble, pleading expression.
Isaac’s brow twitched slightly, thinking it wasn’t a big deal–since Isabella and Hannah both went to the same school, riding together made perfect sense.
He was about to agree when Isabella spoke up coldly and flatly from the side, “I refuse.”
She raised an eyebrow slightly, then glanced at Isaac, who looked ready to say something. With a light, mocking laugh, she said, “But you riding with Isaac would actually work out pretty well.
“After all, siblings should stick together.
