Chapter 267 Hidden Scars
Delight flashed across the three men’s faces, though they quickly reied it in.
Fimelied
Felix’s eyes flickered slightly before he replied smoothly. “He’s doing just fine. You know how it is with age -he just tires out easily.
“We didn’t want to worry him with the recent chaos, or he would have rushed over here to see you himself.”
Glancing sideways at Julian and Garrett, the two immediately chimed in with frantic nods, “Exactly, don’t you worry your pretty head. Bella. Your grandfather is doing great.
“Once the dust settles around Powell Group, we’ll set up a proper gathering for you two to meet.”
Julian added with a reassuring smile.
All three of them spoke in perfect, rehearsed unison.
Isabella pressed her lips together and softly replied, “Alright.”
At her agreement, Julian and Garrett breathed a quiet sigh of relief before hurriedly making their exit.
Once they were gone, a thoughtful glint crossed Isabella’s eyes as she turned to Eugene, “Eugene, I need you to help me look into my grandfather’s situation.”
Julian and the others were definitely hiding something just now.
If her grandfather was truly in good health, he wouldn’t have stayed away for this long without visiting her.
The fact that Daniel managed to deceive her uncles for months implied that all three brothers were tied down with a crisis, didn’t it?
Besides her grandfather Raymond’s declining health, what else could have consumed their time so thoroughly that they couldn’t even spare an afternoon to check on Isabella and verify the Powells, Hes?
Isabella pondered the matter with calculating precision.
Outside the front gates of Carter Manor.
The moment they stepped out of the estate, Julian and his brothers let out a long, heavy breath.
“I almost let the cat out of the bag back there,” Julian murmured with a tired sigh.
Walking alongside them, Garrett furrowed his brow with deep worry. “What are we gonna do down the road? We can’t keep lying to the kid forever, can we?”
“You know how that scumbag Daniel…”
Pausing with an awkward cough, he corrected himself, “I mean Daniel. The way he treated Bella broke the

“If we keep keeping her is the dark and she finds out, what if she thinks we’re deceptive bastards just like that scumbag Daniel?
“I can’t bear having Bella hate my guts!”
Garrett grumbled in frustration, his gruff voice vibrating with anxiety.
Hearing his loud complaints, Felix rolled his eyes at him in exasperation.
As if any of us want Bella looking at us like that!
Do we have any other choice right now?
Knitting his delicate brows, Felix murmured under his breath, “Let’s figure it out once we get back.
“For now, we have to keep a lid on it around Bella.
“You know how badly the Powells hurt her. D*mn it all, Daniel isn’t even human, treating his own flesh and blood like trash!”
Pure venom surged in Felix’s chest at the thought.
He continued in an icy tone, “Bella is safe under the Carters‘ roof, which is a blessing. We shouldn’t drag our messy problems into her life.
“If she finds out, what’s she supposed to do? Ignoring it would eat her up inside, but stepping in means pulling strings with the Carters on our behalf.
“Let’s be brutally honest–the three of us haven’t provided a dime of support, and we don’t have anything of value to offer her.
“To have Bella leverage her own connections–the very sanctuary she carved out with her own wits–I don’t have the gall to ask that of her.
“We failed to provide her a stable home, and now we’d be dumping our burdens onto her shoulders.”
Garrett cut it out. “My conscience won’t allow it.”
“You think yours won’t allow it, but mine will?” Garrett shot him a glare, snorting through his nose, ‘I swear… I haven’t lied in decades, and I nearly bit my tongue off back there. I hope I didn’t give the game away.”
“Not at all,” Felix teased with a dry smirk. “Turns out you’re a natural–born actor, Garrett.”
