Pressing a finger to her lips, she whispered, “Keep this quiet around Eugene and his parents—I don’t want them worrying, especially about the superbike race.”
Winking playfully at Noah, she added, “Alright, that’s everything. I’m heading inside.
“Don’t forget to pick up the herbs once I text you the procurement list.
“And collect Jasper’s group payments for me too–we’ll split that evenly as well.”
Waving a hand, she turned around, “Catch you later.”
Noah only snapped out of his daze as she walked away.
“Hey! It doesn’t cost nearly that much!
“Wait! Isabella, get back here!
“You won this fair and square on the track!
“Hey!”
He shouted at the top of his lungs.
Isabella merely waved over her shoulder without turning back, strolling through Carter Manor’s front gates in a few quick strides.
Mindful of her warning to keep the race a secret from the Carters, Noah didn’t even have time to secure his kickstand before she vanished through the entrance.
“Come on, it’s just fifteen million dollars. Found money gets shared, so don’t be shy–take me along the next time you spot an easy mark!”
Isabella shot a message to Noah’s phone, attached with a cheerful waving cat emoji.
Having failed to catch her, Noah stared at the screen in frustration, just about to type a reply when another notification popped up: “Besides, I wouldn’t have won a cent without you today. What’s wrong with bribing my premier client?
“It’s a fifty–fifty split–don’t wire it back; or I’m canceling our study sessions.”
Reading her ultimatum, Noah’s thumb froze over the transfer button and slowly pulled back.
Scratching his head in flustered defeat, he typed, “Fine, but I’m holding it in escrow for you. Ask me whenever you need cash.”
Hesitating briefly, he added, “Save this chat log as proof–remember this money is yours and you can demand it anytime!”
Isabella fired back an ear–covering meme, “Got it, got it! Go home already!”
Followed by a playful broom–sweeping emoji.
Staring at his phone, Noah couldn’t help laughing out loud.
Seriously, handing him a fortune and he still insists on banking it for me.
If Noah ever went into business, he’d lose his shirt in a week.
