Chapter 48 The Lone Wolf

In fact, on the very day Isabella transferred in, the administration didn’t even dare call her to the podium for a basic introduction, entirely terrified of disturbing Noah’s precious sleep and provoking his wrath.
The entire morning session vanished just like that.
As the final lunch bell rang out, Isabella arched her back in a lazy stretch, preparing to head over to the cafeteria when Noah suddenly called out to block her.
“We’re going together.”
Noah had been holding it in the entire morning.
He was completely losing his mind trying to figure out why Mia’s crew had willingly crawled over, submitted, and literally got down on their knees before Isabella.
Are you freaking kidding me?
There is absolutely zero chance my corporate intelligence network failed.
The Bexleys 100% phoned Adrian to pull rank last night.
And Adrian definitely laid down the law, ordering Isabella to let them slide.
But how on earth did Isabella manage to make that entire arrogant clique bow down to her like submissive puppies?!
Under normal circumstances, shouldn’t Mia be strutting into the room, flaunting her connections, and telling Isabella to watch her back unless she wanted to get expelled?
I was honestly sitting here popping popcorn waiting to watch Isabella lay them out cold.
Instead, he got a total face–plant.
And those high–society brats actually executed a flawless slide–tackle right onto their own knees?!
What kind of twilight zone is this?!
Noah was being thoroughly tortured to death by these unanswered questions.
Had it not been for Isabella sleeping like a log all morning and the fact that he was genuinely exhausted himself, he would have absolutely interrogated her until she broke down and explained every single detail.

“Lunch is on me,”
he announced, his face turning dead serious.
“Let’s roll.”
He reached out to grab Isabella’s wrist to drag her along.
Isabella violently slapped his hand away in a split second.
“Use your words, keep your hands to yourself.”

Her combat reflexes nearly triggered an automatic response to execute a lethal hip–throw.
Noah carried a distinct, hardened aura forged from genuine tactical training, which constantly tripped Isabella’s battle–ready instincts, making her highly averse to his physical proximity.
The exact second he breached her personal space, her mind automatically mapped out a sequence to slam him into the linoleum, pin him down, and lock his trachea.
It was pure, unadulterated muscle memory.
“I didn’t even complain about you, and you’re treating me like a biohazard?!”
Noah stared back at her in absolute disbelief.
Noah cursed inwardly, his mind completely blown.
Ever since Isabella sat next to him, every single line leaving her mouth was a total hijack of his own signature comebacks!
It was getting so bad he was starting to feel like a pathetic little simp chasing her around!
D*mmit!
He didn’t even have any shady intentions just now!
Lowering his voice to a dangerous whisper, Noah practically spat his words through his teeth.
The second his fingers brushed her sleeve, she had rejected him like a total plague.
To anyone watching, it would look like he was trying to pull some cheap, sleazy move on her!
Do I not have an elite reputation to maintain?!
Isabella looked back at him with a thoroughly bewildered expression. “Tell me, do you routinely grab people’s hands whenever you want to strike up a conversation?”

That single question completely struck him dead silent.
He was losing his absolute mind with rage!
“Fine. You win.”
He bit his tongue, squeezing out the words one by one.
What am I, a total freak? Grabbing a girl’s hand just to ask about lunch!
Whatever!
She won this round.
Searing with irritation, Noah barked through his teeth, “So, are we grabbing food or what?!”
He was right on the edge of a total meltdown.
If Isabella dared to say no…
Fine! If she doesn’t want to go, she can starve!
Like I give a single crap!
It’s not like I desperately need her company to eat a sandwich!
Noah tossed his head back with a sharp grunt.
He spun on his heel to storm off, but Isabella’s next line instantly froze him in his tracks.
“Sure.”
Isabella knit her brows, staring at him as if he were missing a few screws.
“Where else would I go for lunch besides the cafeteria?
“It’s not like I own a private dining lounge on campus.
“If you’re going, just walk. What’s the holdup?”
Why the h*ll was he making a simple meal so incredibly complicated?
Isabella couldn’t comprehend his bizarre mental gymnastics.
Did he honestly think she would wrap her hands around his throat and bar him from entering
a public cafeteria as if it were her personal royal estate?
