Chapter 91 A Debt Repaid
Eugene had a million things rushing through his mind.
Farthed
He had already debriefed with the tactical team and knew their survival was entirely down to Isabella.
Brett making it back in one piece was solely because she stepped into the line of fire.
Without her intervention, he couldn’t bear to imagine what those psychopaths would’ve done to his little brother.
To make matters worse, the feds had uncovered solid proof that the kidnappers were targeting the Carter family specifically.
They intended to use the Carter name to pull off a massive, high–profile crime.
Holding Brett for ransom was just a convenient smoke screen, a side hustle.
From day one, they almost certainly never had any intention of letting Brett walk away alive.
Even if they had released him, he wouldn’t have been in one piece–he was bound to have been returned broken and mangled.
The mere thought sent a suffocating wave of panic straight through Eugene’s chest.
He couldn’t bear to imagine the sheer agony and crushing guilt he would suffer if anything happened to his youngest brother.
With those heavy thoughts weighing on him, his gaze turned toward Isabella, overflowing with deep gratitude and remorse.
He felt terrible for dragging her into this mess, yet profoundly grateful that she had rewritten their family’s fate and saved them from a lifetime of grief.
As Eugene choked back his emotions, Isabella blinked, giving him a calm, reassuring smile, “Don’t sweat it.
“Did you forget? You guys did me a solid earlier.”
She was simply squaring the ledger for the cab fare and the cash she borrowed.
“That’s worlds apart,” Eugene said, his voice firm.
He gave his head a slow, resolute shake.
How could those two things even compare?
Giving her a lift was just a minor courtesy, a total no–brainer.
But Isabella had gone to h*ll and back to save his brother’s life.
Besides, Eugene had heard the full rundown from the police–Isabella hadn’t just saved Brett; she had single–handedly taken down the entire crew.

She took them all out entirely on her own.
And those b*stards were packing heat.
Eugene couldn’t wrap his head around how a teenage girl could pull that off.
Was she completely fearless?
If a single thing had gone sideways, Isabella might never have made it out of those woods alive.
She shouldn’t have been anywhere near this mess in the first place, let alone risking her neck for them.
Before Eugene could find more words, Margaret wiped away her tears and hurried over to them.
She grabbed Isabella’s hands with intense warmth, “Oh, sweetie, you are absolute perfection.
“Thank you so much for saving my boy. Thank you, thank you!
Sobbing out loud, she squeezed tighter, “I don’t even know how I can ever repay you.”
Margaret kept dabbing her eyes while holding onto Isabella, her gaze radiating pure, maternal affection.
She couldn’t get over how incredibly endearing this girl was.
Granted, the girl’s outfit was a bit too rugged and sharp for her taste.
In her book, young girls should be all about gorgeous,/soft, pastel styles.
Not that Isabella wasn’t stunning right now.
It was just a personal preference–Margaret had a soft spot for sweet, dainty, feminine girls.
But seeing the quiet, polite demeanor on Isabella’s face, she fell in love on the spot.
Sure, Isabella looked a bit detached and hard to approach on the surface, but Margaret had spent her whole life navigating high society.
She had seen every fake mask and hidden agenda the elite had to offer.
ľ
One look at Isabella told her that underneath that cool exterior lay a young woman with rock–solid principles.
She was exactly the kind of well–behaved, genuine kid Margaret adored.
She held onto Isabella like she never wanted to let go.
And the fact that this girl had saved Brett’s life sealed the deal.
Margaret had just heard the harrowing details from Brett, and even as a secondhand listener, her heart was hammering against her ribs; she couldn’t fathom the sheer nerve and guts it took for Isabella to pull it off.
