Chapter 92 An Unexpected Backing
No matter how formidable she seemed, she was still just a teenage girl.
She wasn’t some hardened, battle–tested cop.
Right then and there, Margaret resolved to keep Isabella at the Carter estate.
Fintered
For starters, it would show the Powells that she had a powerful ally, warning them to stop treating her like a doormat.
On top of that, she wanted the girl to sleep nearby so she could help soothe any lingering panic or trauma from the night’s events.
Hearing her plan, Ethan smiled and chimed in, “That actually works out perfectly.
“We were already planning to suggest that Isabella crash here for the night.
“After all, we need to keep tonight’s incident strictly under wraps for now.
“Your family’s situation shouldn’t be exposed to the public eye either.
“Having her stay over lets her decompress while providing the perfect cover story.”
Otherwise, if Isabella failed to show up at home this late, it would surely raise red flags with the Powells.
Margaret’s eyes lit up on the spot at Ethan’s suggestion “Perfect!
“Then it’s settled.
“We’ll just tell everyone I fell in love with Isabella the moment I saw her and simply couldn’t part with her, so I insisted she stay over for a girls‘ night.
“That’s exactly how we’ll spin it to her family!”
Margaret knew all too well how high society loved to suck up to the powerful and trample on the weak.
By making this public stance, she was effectively drawing a line in the sand, letting the Powells know that Isabella was under her personal protection.
With the Carter family backing her, the Powells would have to treat Isabella with respect and think twice before ever looking down on her again.
She shot a quick, meaningful glance at Arthur, who caught on and smiled, “I’ll handle the Powells in
person.
“I’ll also have a lavish apology gift delivered to their doorstep tomorrow morning.”
That way, her staying out all night would look like the Carters all but begged for her company, completely putting a stop to any nasty rumors that Isabella was desperate to leech onto their status.
Arthur was a master at navigating these upper–class politics and wiped out every single potential fallout.

nished
Isabella blinked in total confusion, completely thrown off.
How do I suddenly have a bunch of powerful guardians out of nowhere?
Before she could wrap her mind around it, Margaret was already pulling her straight toward the grand
staircase.
“Come on, sweetie, let’s go check out the guest rooms.
“We have quite a few, each done up in a totally different style.
“Take a look and see which one speaks to you.
“Consider it your permanent room from now on, so you can come over whenever you want.
“Oh my goodness, look how tiny your wrists are. You poor thing, you must be exhausted.
“I’ve got a chef brewing some rich broth downstairs to get some strength back into you. What kind of food do you like? Any allergies?
“I’ll have them bring up the menu in a bit so you can pick out whatever catches your eye.
“Don’t you dare be shy with me…”
Isabella let herself be guided up the stairs, utterly dazed by the whirlwind of affection.
She had never experienced this kind of suffocating warmth from a vibrant, high–class lady before.
Back in the 24th century, resources were all but nonexistent and vicious beasts ran rampant; everyone was locked in a brutal daily struggle for survival. Even if a woman as bright and lively as Margaret existed there, no one would ever just grab the hand of the realm’s strongest psychic warlord just to fuss over her dietary preferences.
Before Isabella could even process what was happening, Margaret was all but sweeping her off her feet.
The older woman’s hands were unbelievably soft and delicate, looking as though a rough grip might leave a bruise, so Isabella didn’t dare use her actual strength to resist and simply allowed herself to be led away.
