Chapter 102 You Witch!

Chapter 102 You Witch!

James’s POV:

What I saw felt like hell on earth.

300 bodies were piled together.

The way they died was brutal. Some had lost their arms or legs. Others had been cut open.

Blood covered the walls in dark splashes. There were also signs of blood that had been smeared on

purpose.

I walked through the bodies with shaking legs, trying to find a familiar face in the ruined flesh.

“Is this … Timothy?”

I recognized Evelyn’s cousin.

He was kneeling on the ground, his head hanging forward. There was a huge, bloody hole in his neck.

His eyes were wide open, frozen with fear and something else. Hatred?

“General,” a scout reported in a low voice, “we didn’t find General Russell’s body, but we found this.”

He handed me a red piece of armor.

It was part of Evelyn’s breastplate.

There was still a bit of flesh stuck to it.

I clenched the armor shard until my knuckles turned white.

She wasn’t dead.

Evelyn is alive.

If she had died, her body would be here.

She had been taken by the vampires.

“Arghhhhh-!”

I threw my head back and roared. Kenzi slammed wildly inside my chest.

“Gather the troops! Now!” I spun around and shouted at my adjutant. “Gather every soldier who can move! We’re going after them. We’re bringing her back!”

“But, General…” The adjutant hesitated. “The Duchess ordered us to stop the pursuit!”

“To hell with the Duchess!” I grabbed him by the collar, my eyes burning red. “I’m James Nolan. I’m the

general! I’m giving the order! That’s my mate! Are you telling me to stand here and wait for her to die? Duskfang Pack, move out!”

The adjutant was clearly terrified. His voice shook as he explained, “Alpha, the enemy hasn’t collapsed. If we chase them with just our numbers, we may not come back alive.”

That finally forced me to stop. He was right. Charging in with my pack would be suicidal.

I released him and turned toward the command tent.

If our numbers weren’t enough, then Cindy would have to send the full army.

I yanked open the tent flap.

Cindy sat at the map table, holding a charcoal pencil, discussing something with Miguel, Viola, and the others.

She had taken off her heavy armor and wore only a black robe. Her silver hair was tied back loosely, making her look sharp and cold.

She didn’t even look up when I stormed in. “Alpha Nolan,” she said calmly, “entering the command tent without permission-is that your idea of discipline?”

“Save it!” I slammed both hands onto the table, making the markers jump.

“Cindy, why didn’t you attack? Evelyn was captured! Do you know how dangerous this is for her?”

She finally looked up. Her silver eyes were calm, like still water. My rage meant nothing to her.
