Chapter 108 No Regret, Even in Death
Chapter 108 No Regret, Even in Death
James’s POV:
Evelyn. Once a proud gamma warrior. Once praised by King Ryken himself as a Valkyrie.
Now she lay naked on a filthy pile of hay, tossed there like a torn rag.
Her body was covered in burn marks and deep cuts.
Her chest-once strong and full-was ruined, leaving only two terrible bloody wounds.
Blood still seeped down her legs, soaking the straw beneath her.
The worst part was her face.

On her left cheek, a burned brand carrying the word “whore” marked her skin, dark and deep, cut almost to the bone.
Her right ear was gone, sliced off completely, leaving only a blackened hole.
“E-Evelyn?”
I called her name. My voice shook. It was so soft I could barely hear it myself.
At the sound, the mushy flesh on the ground moved.
She slowly turned her head. The eyes that once burned with pride and ambition were now empty-filled only with fear.
But when she saw me, a weak light suddenly flashed in them.
“J-James?”
Her voice was hoarse, rough like sand scraping stone. “You’re here! You finally came!”
She tried to crawl toward me. Pain stopped her. She could only drag herself an inch at a time.
“Save me, please! Save me!”
I looked at her. At what she had become. I felt no pity, only fear. And disgust,
I wanted to step back. I wanted to run.
But I couldn’t move.
My feet felt rooted to the ground.
Cindy walked in.
She looked at the scene without a flicker of emotion, as if she had expected this all along.

“This is the truth you wanted,” she said coldly. “This is the justice Franklin promised,”
My hands trembled as I removed my cloak and stepped forward. I draped it over Evelyn.
Not out of love, but because I could not bear to look at her broken body any longer.
It was the cruelest mockery of my own judgment.

“Why?” I knelt in front of her, my voice breaking. “Evelyn, tell me. What Franklin said… was it true?”
She froze, then she shook her head wildly. “No! It’s not true! They’re monsters! They tortured me!” She screamed, her voice cracking. “Alpha, take me away! Kill them! Kill Cindy! She did this to me!”
“Even now, you’re still lying?”
Something inside me snapped. I grabbed her hair and forced her to look at me.
“Look around you!” I shouted. “Look at your men! Why were they punished like that? Why did they do this to you? Franklin said this was returning cruelty with cruelty! What had you done to that vampire prince?!”
“I…” Evelyn was frightened by the twisted look on my face. Her eyes darted away, unable to meet mine.
“Speak!” I roared. I picked up a heated iron from the ground. “If you don’t tell me, I’ll ruin the other side of your face too!”
