Chapter 136 Closer Than Family
Chapter 136 Closer Than Family
Prince Adam’s POV:
In the past, I might have hesitated. I might have weighed the pros and cons.

But on the battlefield at Southreach, everything became clear. When I saw Cindy covered in blood, standing in front of me without fear, when I held her hand among the dead, I understood something deep in my bones. Some things matter more than the throne.
The throne was cold.
Cindy was warm.
If keeping the crown means giving her up, watching her bond with someone else, then I would rather walk away from the throne.
And more than that, it would be cruel to her.
She had suffered enough with her former mate. How could I allow her to become a sacrifice in another political game?
“Guards,” I called toward the door.
My personal guard entered at once.
“Your Highness?”
“Prepare ink and paper.” I stood up. The doubt in my eyes was gone, replaced by solid resolve. “And bring me my scepter. At tomorrow’s court session, I will surrender my military command.”
The guard stared at me in shock. “Your Highness, what are you saying?”
“Trading power for freedom,” I said calmly. “That’s a fair deal.”
I spread the paper and began to write.
The strokes were firm and steady, filled with resolve.
“Deliver your message to the Silverpeak Estate,” I said, handing him the card. “Tell the gatekeeper I will visit in person tomorrow morning.”
This wasn’t a prince making an inspection. This was an Alpha preparing to make the most serious proposal
of his life.
Cindy’s POV:
The next morning, the rain cleared.
I was stretching on the training grounds when Tom walked over, holding a gold-edged card. His expression was strange.

Chapter 136 Closer Than Family
“Alpha, Prince Adam has sent a formal visit notice.”
I took it and glanced at it.
“I will visit by tomorrow morning. Written by Adam.”
That was all. No formal language. No explanation.

“So formal?” I wiped the sweat from my brow, surprised. “Did something go wrong with the post-war arrangements at Southreach? Or did King Ryken make another move, and he’s here to warn me?”
I didn’t think of anything else.
In my mind, Prince Adam was my comrade. My superior. It was difficult to see him as a pursuer.
After all, the three-month verbal order from the king had only just been announced. I didn’t expect him to
act so soon.
“Tom, prepare tea and snacks,” I said. “Use the standard for receiving a superior.”
“Yes,” Tom replied. He hesitated to say something, but eventually, he smiled and walked away.
After finishing my work, I thought of Rupert.
During the Duskfang Pack scandal, he had spoken up for me and helped clear my name.
“Jewel,” I called to my maid, who was organizing the storage room. “Prepare a generous gift. Bring a few bottles of our best aged wine. Go to Dr. Rupert’s research lab and thank him for me.”
“Got it!” Jewel said cheerfully.
By evening, Jewel returned.
She brought back more than thanks. She brought two large crates,
“Ms. Cindy! Look at this!”
She opened them eagerly.
Inside were no jewels or gold. Instead, there were neatly arranged potion bottles and bundles of fragrant
herbs.
“This is … “I picked up a pale blue vial. A handwritten label was attached. “Superior Mindrest Elixir: Special Formula.”
“Dr. Rupert made these just for you and your friend,” Jewel explained excitedly. “He said you just came back from the battlefield. Your bodies look fine, but your wolf spirits are still under stress. This potion has no side effects. It calms the mind and soothes the wolf spirit.”
I picked up another bundle of herbs. The label read: For Bath Use. Warming. Relieves Old Injuries and Joint Pain
