Chapter 148 Queen Isabella Is Kind

Cindy’s POV:

In the middle of that stiff, awkward silence, cheerful footsteps suddenly echoed at the door.

“Mother! Mother! I heard Cindy is here! Where is she?”

A girl in a tulle dress burst in like a sudden gust of wind. She had a pair of cute wolf ears and an endless amount of energy.

She was Prince Adam’s younger sister, Princess Raya.

The moment she entered, her eyes locked onto me. They lit up with pure admiration. She ran straight toward me, hopping with excitement, and completely forgot to bow to Queen Isabella.

“Wow! It’s really the Valkyrie!” Her face turned red with excitement as she circled me. “I read your battle report from Southreach! You’re impressive! Especially when you knocked out that enemy. So cool! Can you teach me? I want to be strong like you!”

Faced with such an innocent girl, the tension in my face softened without me realizing it.

“You flatter me, Your Highness,” I said with a small smile. “Those were desperate moves on the battlefield. They weren’t meant to look good.”

“They were good! Super good!” She grabbed my arm warmly, acting like we were already family. “From now on, you’re my sister-in-law! This is great! With you protecting me, no one will bully me again!”

Queen Isabella watched her daughter cling to me so happily. Her face darkened at once.

“Raya! Get over here!” she shrieked. “Who told you to touch her? That’s disgusting!”

Princess Raya jumped in shock and looked at her mother in confusion. “Mother, what’s wrong? Cindy is a hero. How could she be dirty?”

“What hero? She’s a jinx!” Queen Isabella snapped, losing control. “Do you even know that everyone in her family is dead? Her father and her three brothers-gone! She’s cursed to be alone. Anyone who gets close to her will suffer! If you stay near her, you might get hurt too!”

The moment those words fell, the hall went dead silent.

The faint smile on my face vanished. My expression darkened.

I could endure the earlier insults, but this hit the deepest wound in my heart.

The air around me changed. It was no longer cold defense, but the killing pressure forged in blood and

war.

I slowly turned to look at her. My eyes were empty; dangerous, like a bottomless pit.

“Your Majesty.”

My voice was low and heavy, each word pressed out with force. “You may insult me. You may curse ine. I don’t care. But my father and my brothers gave every drop of their blood for this country.”

I stepped toward her. With each step, the floor seemed to tremble.

“My father could have escaped. No vampire could have stopped him. But he chose to stay and die with the Vampire Duke to protect the kingdom and his people.

“My three brothers stayed behind so civilians could flee. They used their own bodies to block the enemy’s fangs. In the end, there wasn’t even enough left of them to bury properly.”

I stopped in front of her and looked down at her, my gaze as sharp as a blade.

“It is precisely because they are all dead that you can sit safely in this palace, wearing fine clothes, and throwing around words that curse me as a jinx.

“You enjoy the peace they paid for with their lives, yet here you are trampling on their honor.”

My voice suddenly rose, crashing through the hall like thunder.

“Is this the dignity of a queen?! Is this how you treat fallen heroes?!”

Queen Isabella stumbled back, her face drained of color. Her mouth opened, but no words came out.

She panicked, completely overwhelmed.

“I-I…” she stammered, her eyes darting away.

Suddenly, she clutched her head and swayed.

“My head… It hurts… someone… Help me inside… I need to rest now…”

Supported by the head attendant, she fled into her chambers in a sorry state.

The hall was left with just me and a very confused Princess Raya.
