When my butler, Julian, placed the gilt-edged invitation on my desk, his movements were unnaturally careful, as if he were setting down an alchemical bomb that might explode at any moment.
The card reeked of violet perfume, Princess Margaret’s favorite scent. But to me, beneath the floral sweetness was the sickening smell of blood.
“Princess Margaret’s 200th birthday banquet,” I read the ornate lettering, my fingers tapping the desktop without thinking. “And she requires me to attend with a companion?”
Her face immediately came to mind.
Princess Margaret. Among the royal bloodline, second in seniority only to my grandmother. A woman of pure Ryken blood, with a heart more vicious than any abyssal beast.
I still remembered being eight years old, the day I accidentally wandered into her private domain, Blackthorn Manor.
I hid behind the curtains and watched how she dealt with her husband’s mistress.
The poor Omega knelt on the floor, begging for mercy, clutching a newborn mixed-blood infant in her
arms.
Princess Margaret used no blade. She summoned no guards.
She just took off her lace gloves, slow and deliberate, revealing razor-sharp nails. Then, before the assembled servants, she partially transformed, taking on a half-wolf form.
She bit through the throats of the woman and her child while they were still alive.
That scene-the blood, the infant’s screams-became a nightmare that haunted my childhood.
Afterward, she merely wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and said calmly to me, who stood frozen in terror, “Adam, remember this. Filthy things with impure blood have no right to breathe in this family.”
And now, that madwoman wanted to see Cindy.
“Your Highness?” Julian murmured, noticing the dark cast of my expression. “Shall we decline? The excuse is ready. We can say Your Grace is occupied with military affairs.”
“We can’t refuse.” I tossed the invitation back onto the desk and rubbed my brow. “This is an open trap. She is the head of the royal clan. Her birthday banquet will draw every powerful family in the kingdom. If Cindy doesn’t attend, it’ll look like cowardice, like a deliberate slight against the royal house. Princess Margaret excels at drowning people in polite smiles and poisoned words.”
More than that, there was a blood feud between Princess Margaret and Cindy.

Chapter 152 An Invitation from a Madwoman
Years ago, before Princess Margaret married her ill-fated former husband, she had been obsessively infatuated with Cindy’s father, Benjamin, the alpha of Silverpeak Pack.
At the time, Benjamin was the empire’s youngest alpha war hero. Handsome, powerful, upright.
Relying on her status as a princess, Margaret had pursued him openly, even attempting to force a marriage through political pressure.
Benjamin refused her outright during a royal council session, in front of my father and the assembled ministers.
