I raced through the capital’s streets. Pedestrians jumped aside in shock, but all I could see was the road stretching out in front of me.
Once I got past the city gates, there was nothing but endless open plains.
I pushed my speed to the limit, the wind slicing through my fur like knives.
As I ran, the events from three years ago kept replaying in my mind.
Back then I was at the academy when the news hit-the Spencers were wiped out.
I ran home like I’d lost my mind. When I arrived, all I saw was scorched earth and shattered walls.
“Astra!” I’d screamed as I searched through the ruins.
Baron Kazek was holding a charred bundle in his arms, staring blankly at me. “Cindy, it’s over… all of it. This is Astra. He’s still clutching the dagger you gave him … he fought until the very end…”
I didn’t believe it.
I really didn’t believe it at the time.
But the body’s size, the necklace, the dagger-everything pointed to that brutal truth.
Logic told me Astra was gone.
That sweet little nephew of mine had become nothing but ashes.
But now, Adam told me there was a child with silver-gray eyes, limping and mute, barely surviving in the dark corners of Liberty City.
“What if that body wasn’t really his?” Diana’s voice drifted on the wind. “Cindy, have you ever wondered? Why would vampires slaughter us? The logical answer is they want revenge. But what if… they wanted more? Like a test subject with the pure Silverpeak bloodline?”
“Stop it!” I roared inwardly, my paws gouging deep holes in the earth as I ran. “That’s too cruel, Diana. That’s too cruel. If he survived, that means he’s spent three years being tortured by monsters! Three years! For a child, that’s a living hell!”
“That’s exactly why he needs you,” Diana was relentless. He survived, Cindy. If it’s really him, he made it On the pride and toughness of the Silverpeak line. Your job now isn’t to guess, but to bring him home.”
I gritted my teeth, turning all my pain and anger into strength.
Every muscle in my legs was burning, my lungs felt like they were on fre.
But I couldn’t stop.

I kept running, day and night, never slowing down.

Whenever I got hungry, I chewed a few bites of the dry rations I carried. If I got thirsty, I drank from streams by the roadside.
The sun rose and set, stars spun above me.
I was racing against time, fighting death for the right to bring someone home.
Astra, if you’re still alive…
Please, wait for Aunt Cindy.
This time, I’m bringing you home, even if it means giving everything I have.
By the evening of the third day, when the gray walls of Liberty City finally appeared on the horizon, I was at my limit.
My legs felt like they were filled with lead, and just lifting them took every ounce of willpower I had left.
My silver fur was caked with dust, bits of grass, dried mud, and even spots of blood-reminders of pushing through brambles on the way.
I hadn’t rest for three days straight.
“We’re here, Cindy. Just ahead.” Even Diana’s voice sounded exhausted, but it was also tight with nerves. “That’s Liberty City. The answers are there.”
