Chapter 208 Uncle Roger Kept His Promise

“It really is you … it really is you…”

I broke down sobbing, crying like a child who had finally found his way home.

Tears and snot smeared my face, rubbing messily against his ill-fitting old clothes.

“I didn’t break his promise… I didn’t break his promise!”

I cried incoherently, my words tumbling over each other. “That dagger… that wolf-fang dagger was finished a long time ago! It’s in the study! In the study! I polish it every day, and I wait for you every day. just to give it to you!”

My grip was so tight he could barely breathe, yet he didn’t struggle.

He buried his head against my broad shoulder, his small hands clutching the fabric at my back as a hoarse, long-suppressed whimper escaped his throat.

This was an embrace of family.

An embrace carrying the scent of leather and sweat, of guilt and boundless love.

The guards and servants at the gate stood there dumbstruck before snapping out of it, one after another wiping their eyes. The butler was so overcome he nearly fainted, then turned and ran inside at full speed.

“Quick! Go spread the news! It really is Astra! Astra is back!”

The butler’s cracked, broken-voice shout echoed across the entire front courtyard,

I was still crying, as if trying to pour out all the regret of the past two years.

I cupped his face, staring at the scars, at those familiar eyes, my fingers trembling uncontrollably.

“How did you get so thin… how did it come to this…”

My heart ached so badly I shook. “Who did this? Which bastard did it? I’ll kill him! I’ll tear him to pieces!”

He lifted his rough little hand and clumsily wiped away my tears.

Then he pointed toward the inside of the gate.

Home.

“Yes, home! We’re going home!”

I tried to lift him fully into my arms, but he struggled slightly and pointed at his leg, signaling that he wanted to walk on his own.

He was telling me that even if he limped, he could still walk.

“No!”

I scooped him up forcefully and held him tight against my chest. “You’re not walking. The road is too hard. It’ll hurt your feet. Uncle Roger will carry you. From now on, Uncle Roger will be your legs!”

Holding him, I charged into the estate like a whirlwind.

Fiona’s POV:

The entire baronial estate had descended into chaos.

That heart-rending shout from the butler detonated the entire rear courtyard.

I was feeding Maya her medicine spoon by spoon when my hand jolted. The bowl crashed to the floor with a clang, porcelain shattering everywhere, medicine splashing across my skirt.

“What did you say?” I whipped my head around, staring at the butler, my voice shaking. “Say that again!”

“Madam! It’s really Mr. Astra!” The butler cried, tears and snot streaming down his face, his beard soaked. “The master is at the gate holding the child, crying so hard he can barely stand! Those eyes, that expression-there’s no mistaking it! It’s Mr. Astra!”

In that instant, it felt as though something slammed hard into my chest.

Tears surged without warning, blurring my vision.

I turned and looked at Maya lying on the couch, her body withered, barely clinging to life.

She was 300 years old now, her hearing long since failing. On ordinary days, one had to shout directly into her ear for her to hear helpfully.

Now she lifted her head groggily, looking at the room full of people crying in a daze, and asked weakly, her voice trembling,

“What’s wrong? What happened? Did … did that brat Roger get into trouble again?”

I couldn’t hold back any longer. I rushed to her side and gripped her dry, branch-like hand tightly, shouting with every ounce of strength I had,
