Chapter 216 An Oath Written in Blood

Cindy’s POV:

That afternoon, all work ceased.

There was no fine wine or lavish food.

A massive bonfire was lit in an open space at the heart of the ruins.

The elders brought out their hoarded dried meat and gathered around Astra, gazing at him as if he were a priceless relic, unwilling to look away for even a moment.

Amid the celebration and vigilant protection, I quietly tugged at Astra’s sleeve.

“Come. There are people you should meet.”

I led him around the crowd and toward the cemetery behind the hills.

It was silent there. Only the wind moaned through the pine forest, a stark contrast to the noise below.

Astra stood before the gravestones.

He looked at the rows of names carved into the stone.

His small body began to tremble violently.

Slowly, he knelt.

This time, he showed no care for his broken leg. He slammed his knees against the stone slabs.

He reached out, trembling, tracing my father’s name. Then my mother’s. Then Steven’s.

I knelt beside him, tears sliding down without sound.

“Dad, Mom, Steven,” I whispered. “I brought him back. Our little wolf survived.”

Suddenly, Astra moved.

From his chest, he drew the sapphire dagger he had always kept hidden.

He pulled it free. Cold light flashed.

Before I could react, he slashed his left palm open.

Blood poured out instantly, splattering onto the white snow-brilliant, vicious red.

“Astra!” I cried, reaching for him.

But he pulled away.

His eyes were steady, filled with a resolve and killing intent I had never seen before.

He slammed his bleeding palm against the icy gravestone.

Blood streamed down the carved grooves and seeped into the name “Benjamin Spencer.”

He opened his mouth and released a soundless scream. From his throat came the sharp, piercing cry unique to young wolves.

“That is a blood oath.”

Diana appeared atop the gravestone. There was no mischief in her expression now. Her tail was drawn in. her posture solemn. “He is telling the ancestors with his blood, I did not die. I will carry this hatred and this honor. From today on, I am no longer a cub to be protected. I am Silverpeak’s avenger. I am the future Alpha.”
