I crashed straight into Oliver’s arms and caught that familiar scent, a blend of ink and pine needles.

“Oliver! Why are you here?” I blurted out, too excited to make sense. I grabbed his sleeve tightly, afraid he might vanish the next second. “Weren’t you traveling? How did you suddenly end up in the kingdom?”

Oliver caught me steadily and reached out to tap my forehead, just like he used to when I was a kid. The motion was practiced, gentle, and indulgent.

“How old are you now, still this reckless?”

He smiled, his voice warm and calm. “You’ve grown taller, and prettier too. But you look thinner than before. Did the winds and sand in Southreach almost blow you away?”

“Oliver!” I shook his arm like I was whining. “Stop changing the subject. Tell me why you’re

here.”

“I came through Evernight Gorge,” Oliver said casually, yet my heart jolted.

Evernight Gorge was where all the tragedy had begun.

“I heard you caused quite a stir in Southreach, so I came by to take a look,” Oliver said softly as he looked at me. “And it’s not just me. Fern is on the way too. She should arrive in a couple of days.”

“Fern is coming too?” I lit up. “That’s perfect! Our little troublemaking trio is finally getting back together!”

We walked into the main hall, where Jewel had already brought out hot coffee and pastries.

When Jewel saw Oliver, her hands shook with excitement. She gave a proper bow and said earnestly, “Mr. Silva, it’s so good to see you. You … you haven’t aged at all. You look exactly the

same!”

“Still such a sweet talker,” Oliver said with a laugh. He pulled a delicate little wooden carving from his pocket and handed it to her. “A small gift.”

Jewel held it like a treasure, her eyes brimming with tears.

Once we were seated, I finally remembered the real issue.

“Oliver, you came to the kingdom so openly this time. Won’t that attract trouble from the nobles?” I asked, worried. “You know how your paintings are impossible to get. If people find out you’re staying at my estate, I’m afraid the doors will be worn down by visitors.”

Oliver took a sip of coffee, a hint of mischief flashing in his eyes.

“That’s exactly what I want.”

He set the cup down and pointed to the huge art case he had brought with him. “Cindy, I didn’t come just to see you. I want to borrow your estate to host an art exhibition.”

“An exhibition?” I froze. “Here?”

“Yes. Right here, at Silverpeak,” Oliver said seriously. “I know you’ve just returned to the kingdom. You have military achievements and a title, but your foundation isn’t solid yet. The old noble families may respect you on the surface, but they don’t truly accept you. Especially the civil officials and the ladies of high society. They look down on warriors who only know how to fight.”

He looked straight at me. “I’m going to use this exhibition to draw all the powerful figures of the kingdom to your estate. I want them to understand that the Duchess of Silverpeak doesn’t just wield a blade on the battlefield. She can also hold her own in refined company. I’ll use my reputation to help you carve a path straight into the core of high society.”

I stared at him, a powerful warmth rising in my chest.

So he knew everything.

He understood my position, my struggles, and

my

isolation.

He had traveled all this way not just to catch up, but to stand behind me.

“Oliver…” My nose stung. “You hate socializing more than anything. And you’re doing all this

for me…”

“Silly girl.” Oliver tapped my forehead again. “No one can avoid dealing with people in this world. And if it’s for you, this kind of socializing is nothing.”

He turned to Tom, his calm and composed demeanor returning.

“Tom, spread the word. Announce that Oliver will be holding a three-day exhibition at Silverpeak Ducal Estate titled Storms of Southreach. All lovers of art are welcome.”
