Snow had been coming and going for two days, covering the whole kingdom in a bright silver layer.

It had been two days since the art exhibition. With Oliver backing things up, the future Silverpeak Pack finally secured a place among the noble circles.

Even Queen Isabella looked at me with much less edge than before.

That day, the red blossoms in the back garden were at their peak. The bold red stood out sharply against the clean white snow, almost unreal.

Astra was wrapped up in a thick fur coat, looking like a round little bear. He trudged through the snow with uneven steps, full of excitement.

His legs were still recovering. Rupert allowed light movement, but I watched him closely, scared he’d slip.

“Aunt Cindy! Look!”

Astra held up two sticks and poked them into a crooked snowman. That poor thing was a mess. Its oversized head was on a tiny body, already sagging and close to falling apart. Ugly, but somehow cute.

I laughed and walked over, fixing its head and picking a few red flowers to use as eyes.

Under the covered walkway nearby, Oliver had set up his easel to sketch.

He wore a thin light-blue robe, totally ignoring the cold. His brush moved quickly, capturing the spinning snow, the proud flowers, and the warm scene of a big snowman beside a small

one.

“I’m taking this back to the academy,” Oliver said, pausing as white breath fogged the air. His eyes looked gentle. “I’ll hang it in the library and let those brats see just how comfortable their senior is living now.”

The moment he mentioned the academy, my heart skipped a beat.

I straightened up, brushed the snow off my hands, and walked toward him, feeling uneasy.

“Oliver,” I said quietly, meeting his gaze. “The bonding ceremony for Adam and me is in one

week.”

Oliver stopped rinsing his brush, but he didn’t look up. “Yeah. I know.”

“But…” I bit my lip. The unease inside me grew heavier. “Why hasn’t anyone from the academy shown up yet? Elder Selvaryn loves gatherings. He promised to be my witness at my wedding. And Dean Dross-he taught Adam, didn’t he? And our classmates…”

For days now, I’d been waiting.

I kept expecting the familiar teleportation circle to light up. I imagined that loud group storming in, joking about stealing my wedding sweets.

But nothing came.

Only nobles with gifts passed through the ducal gates. The people I truly wanted to see never appeared.

Oliver finally put his brush down.

He turned to face me. Something complicated flashed in his eyes before he let out a quiet sigh.

“Cindy, they’re not coming.”

Those words felt like icy water dumped over my head in midwinter.

“Why?” My voice shook. “Is the journey too far? Or is it because…”

“Elder Selvaryn sent a letter,” Oliver said, pulling one from his coat without handing it over. His tone stayed flat. “He said Northmere is too cold this year. His old leg is acting up. He doesn’t feel like traveling thousands of miles for a wedding.”

“Then what about Dean Dross?” I asked quickly.

“He says there’s an urgent issue at the academy, and he can’t leave. He told you to bring Adam back to Moonridge Heights after the wedding.” Oliver sounded calm, which only made my
