Beside the Silverpeak caravan’s carriage, Tom clutched a handkerchief embroidered with the silver wolf crest. He kept wiping at the tears in the corners of his eyes, his voice tight with worry as he said, “Your Grace, Ms. Spencer, we can’t delay any longer! The sun is about to set. The blessed hour is a sacred moment chosen by the Moon Goddess. Missing even a single second would be disrespectful to the goddess!”

I stood next to the line of carriages, gripping a corner of Fern’s sleeve as tightly as I could, like a little wolf cub refusing to go to school.

“Tom, just wait a little longer … just a little,” I pleaded, almost acting spoiled as I looked toward Dean Dross and Elder Selvaryn standing nearby. “I just saw my teachers again. We barely spoke a few words, and now you’re sending me away already? Couldn’t we… postpone the ceremony by one more hour?”

“Nonsense!”

The one who answered me wasn’t Tom, but the discipline master, Reginald.

His face was set in that familiar poker-straight look, and the tight silver dress uniform he wore made him seem like a blade ready to flash from its sheath at any second.

“This is a royal wedding, a sacred bonding ceremony. How could it be treated like a game?” Reginald scolded sternly. “Cindy, right now you represent the honor of the Silverpeak Pack- and the honor of our academy as well. Do you want the nobles outside to say the students we train have no sense of time?”

I shrank my neck a little and pouted, feeling wronged.

“That’s enough. Don’t scare the child,” Fern said with a gentle smile, softly prying my fingers loose from her sleeve. “Cindy, be good. Today is the most important day of your life. You can’t be willful.”

She bent down and whispered in my ear, “Besides, who said we’re being separated? That sly boy, Adam, already reserved the best VIP seats for us at the banquet. After the ceremony ends, all of us will follow you to his estate. Tonight, we’re going to drink every last bottle in his wine cellar.”

I froze for a moment, then looked up sharply. “Adam knew you were coming? He knew all along?”

“Of course.” Elder Selvaryn let out a ring of smoke, his wrinkled face spreading into a grin. “That boy really humbled himself to get us to come. He even acknowledged Dross as his

teacher and promised to return to the academy very year as a volunteer instructor. That kid… He’s full of schemes, but he truly cares about you.”

A complicated feeling rose in my chest.

There was some annoyance at being “outplayed” by Adam-but far more than that was a quiet warmth from how carefully everything had been arranged for me.

He knew what I wanted most, so he prepared it all in silence, just to give me this surprise.

“Alright, go touch up your makeup,” Dean Dross said impatiently, waving his hand. “If you keep dragging this out, Carrie will think Silverpenk Pack is afraid of her and doesn’t dare walk in front of her.”

I grumbled silently that the dean had no manners, but I still obediently signaled toward the carriage.

The maids hurried over at once, using brushes dusted with gold powder to refine my features and carefully straighten the heavy laurel pearl crown on my head.

Just then, a long, deep horn sounded from beyond the great street.
