At that split second, a gentle white glow and a red flare landed on me at the same time.
Warmth flooded my limbs. My shaking knees locked steady. Strength poured back into my
arms.
It was a high priest from the Moon Goddess Temple!
He’d cast a Soothing Spell from behind the line.
I glanced back in thanks at the old priest who never smiled, then took one steadying breath, lifted Cindy firmly, and placed her into the carriage.
The curtain drifted down, slowly hiding her from view.
“Whew…”
I let out a long breath and realized my back was already soaked through.
“Stop staring-get on your horse,” Fern murmured beside me, pressing down Cindy’s hand when she tried to lift the curtain for air. “You lift the veil now and let the scent leak? That’s
bad luck.”
I turned and headed for my mount—a pureblood warhorse named Lightning.
Today, he wore golden barding too, proud and imposing.
I stepped up, took the reins, set my foot in the stirrup, and prepared for a clean, impressive swing into the saddle.
And then the damn happiness vertigo hit again.
My boot slipped. I ended up draped over the horse like a clumsy sack, almost sliding right off the other side.
“Pff-”
The royal knights in formation were trained to iron discipline, but even they couldn’t hold it in-low laughter rippled through the line.
Even the crowd watching let out good-natured chuckles.
Heat climbed from my face to my ears. I was certain they were burning.

This was mortifying!
Possibly the most humiliating moment of my life.
A thick arm reached in, caught me at the waist, and steadied my balance.
It was Chase Foster, my adjutant.

“Your Highness, hold it together,” Chase muttered, choking on a laugh. “If you fall, the Onyx Legion’s pride is going straight into the dirt.”
Using his support, I settled into the saddle, drewn deep breath, and forced the dizziness out of my head.
I couldn’t embarrass myself again.
I’m an Alpha. I’m royal blood. I have to hold the field!
I snapped my eyes open-my golden pupils narrowing into needle-thin slits.
A terrifying pressure-pure top-tier Alpha-burst from me and swept the entire area like a
storm.
“Rrroar-”
A low, warning growl rolled up from my throat.
The weight of it turned the air solid.
The laughter died instantly.
Every knight wiped the grin from his face at once. Warhorses pawed the ground, uneasy, and the civilians shut their mouths with sudden respect.
This was what power felt like.
