Chapter 299 Adam’s Little Scheme

Cindy’s POV:

“Lily… Margaret … how dare they?”

Queen Isabella muttered to herself, her voice thick with grievance and disbelief. “I may not possess an Alpha’s strength, but I am still the Queen. How could they brazenly treat me like a fool?”

I sighed and gestured for the maids to enter and clear the shattered porcelain.

“Mother.” I stepped closer and handed her a clean handkerchief. “They dared because you gave them the courage.

“All these years, you’ve been afraid of Margaret. You’ve deferred to her. Flattered her. In their eyes, you’re not the mother of the realm-you’re a sitting duck. If you won’t stand your ground, who else would they target? Locked away in the palace, sheltered from the real world –you’re exactly the kind of prey con artists dream about.”

Queen Isabella pressed the handkerchief to her face and finally broke down, sobbing openly.

“I just… always felt inferior…” she cried like a scolded child. “Margaret is a pure-blood Alpha. I am merely an omega born of merchants. I thought if I spent enough money, I could buy peace, buy a place in their circle. And now? Even that wretched Lily dares climb over my head! She takes dividends year after year while I fill the losses… I am nothing but a joke!”

Watching her crumble, the last of my frustration faded, replaced by faint pity.

This was the tragedy of the weak.

They believed money and compromise could purchase respect. But in a wolf’s world, respect must be earned with fangs and claws.

“Enough tears.” I patted her shoulder gently, softening my tone. “This can be resolved. There are contracts. There will be real ledgers. After I return from tomorrow’s visit, we will settle the accounts slowly and thoroughly. Whatever Lily swallowed, I will make her spit out- principal and interest.”

Queen Isabella lifted her head, eyes swollen and wet.

For the first time, there was no suspicion or sharpness in her gaze-only dependence, like a drowning woman clutching driftwood.

“Cindy…” she sniffled. “Can we truly get it back? Lily is so vicious…”

“Do not worry.” I smiled and straightened her disheveled hair. “With me here, no one will devour you. From this day forward, we do not provoke-but neither do we fear. Anyone who dares extend a claw, we sever it’

She wiped her nose and nodded firmly.

“Rest now. I must prepare the gifts for tomorrowW

I bowed and withdrew,

Outside Rose Palace, the sunlight felt harsh against my eyes.

I exhaled slowly.

It had only been domestic turmoil, yet it felt more exhausting than a battlefield.

Still, seeing a trace of humanity finally emerge in her expression made the effort worthwhile.

Prince Adam’s POV:

I stood before the estate warehouse, inventory list in hand, personally overseeing the preparation of the gifts.

“That crate of deep-sea pearls goes onto the first carriage. Carefully. Not a scratch.

The hundred-year Wolfblood Whiskey-pad it with straw. It’s for Dross. If even one jar breaks, he’ll complain about it for a year.

And pack those toys and sweets properly for the children.”

Chase wiped sweat from his brow and muttered. Your Highness, isn’t this excessive? Three entire carriages. We’re visiting family, not relocating. Anyone watching would think you’re emptying the royal estate to donate everything to the Silverpeak Pack.”

I shot him a look and carefully placed a delicate pastry box into a gift chest.

“You don’t know jack.”

I wiped my forehead. “This day is more critical than war. Do you think I’m facing ordinary wolves?”

I gestured northward, my expression darkening I am facing the academy’s pack of lunatics -especially Dean Dross and Reginald. They will not spare me simply because I am a prince, If I falter even slightly-if they sense the smallest neglect toward Cindy or doubt my ability to protect her-they will humiliate me on the spot. They might even attempt to reclaim her.”
