Chapter 309 Reviewing the Contract

Cindy’s POV:

I raised an eyebrow. “What would I need your money for? I have money. That’s your private savings. What belongs to you should stay with you.

“However…” I changed my tone. “Once we get the money back, the cosmetics shop needs a full restructure. Either send someone you truly trust to manage it or just sell it. But we are not letting them take another dollar from you.”

We moved to the salon. Martha brought in coffee and pastries.

Isabella held the warm cup in both hands and took a sip. She calmed down a little, but the anger in her eyes was still there.

“I don’t get it,” she said, biting her lip. “Why would they do this? I may not be the sharpest person, but I’ve always treated them well. How can they be so heartless? Aren’t they afraid people will talk behind their backs?”

I sat across from her and flipped through the copy of the contract Martha had found.

“They had the nerve to cheat you because they knew you wouldn’t question it,” I said, still focused on the papers in front of me. “Go through the last few years of accounts. You put up 70% of the capital. You also carried 70% of the losses. They wouldn’t have dared if you’d paid attention or visited the shop. Think abou it. If they truly wanted to protect you from losses, why give you the largest share in the first place?”

“That’s outrageous!”

Isabella slammed her hand on the table. “This is too much!”

But the fire in her eyes faded just as fast as it had appeared.

She shrank back a little and muttered, “M-maybe it’s good enough for us to get the original investment back. I won’t deal with them after this. Falling out with them is ugly. And Margaret has such a sharp tongue.”

My hand paused on the contract. I stared at her in disbelief.

“Weren’t you just furious, saying you wanted every dollar back? How did you lose your nerve so quickly?”

I almost laughed from frustration.

Isabella was the classic soft-hearted type-sensitive, emotional, easily shaken, and quick to forget pain once it passed.

When I glared at her, her eyes turned red again.

She was beautiful to begin with. Her features were delicate. Now her large eyes filled with tears. She bit her lower lip, looking like someone who had been deeply wonged but was too scared to fight back. It was hard not to feel a little sorry for her.

“I-I just scared,” she said, her voice shaking. “What if she goes crazy?”

I took a deep breath and reminded myself. This is Adan’s mother. My mother-in-law. I cannot yell at her.

“You’re right, Diana,” I said silently to the wolf spirit in my mind. “She can be annoying, but she’s just a

spoiled house cat. You can’t reason with a cat. You just have to pet it and keep it calm.”

“Then pet it,” Diana said lazily, as if she were stretching. You’re the Alpha. Protecting a soft Omega is your instinct.”

I sighed and softened my voice.

“Alright. Let’s eat first. We need energy before we collect our debt.” I pushed a plate of muffins toward her. “Don’t worry about this. I’ll handle it. You just focus on receiving the money.”

Isabella sniffed and picked up a muffin, taking a small bite. She kept sneaking glances at me, as if checking whether I truly meant it.

“Eat,” I urged gently. “After that, we’ll go through the contract.”

When we finished eating, I picked up the contract and read it carefully. Once. Twice. Three times.

The more I read, the more interesting it became.
