Cindy’s POV:

Margaret reacted fast./

She played the old trick perfectly-sacrifice a pawn to protect the queen. She was good at this trick.

She scrambled to her feet and cried out, “Yes! It must be Maria! That awful woman! I’ll drag her back here myself! I’ll question her until she confesses and make her return every cent she stole from Aunt Isabella!”

Watching the two of them put on such a tearful show, I felt nothing but cold amusement.

“There’s no need for you to fetch her,” I said calmly.

I stood in the center of the hall and looked at them without blinking. “Ms. Tillman is already in my custody. And she has confessed. She explained how the fake accounts were made and how the toxic, low-quality cosmetics were mixed in. Every detail.”

I looked at Lily’s cold expression and spoke slowly, one word at a time. “I came today to confirm one thing. If you knew about this and chose to stay silent-or wors, if you were the one behind it-then I won’t waste my time arguing. I’ll have Maria escorted straight to the High Court. Once she stands before the Chief Justice, the law will decide. Execution or exile.”

“High Court?!”

At those words, Margaret and Lily changed color right before my eyes. Their pale faces turned

In the kingdom, the High Court held the highest legal authority. And the man sitting in the ch was none other than Adam, the former general who had just given up military command and ta sword of justice instead.

My mate.

If this case truly reached the High Court and landed in dam’s hands, they would not walk away unscathed. Adam would never allow me to be wronged. And over the years, this mother and daughter had earned themselves plenty of enemies at the Royal Court.

Embezzling Isabella’s property. Selling toxic products that harmed innocent civilians. Those two charges alone were enough to strip Lily of her noble title and send her to the labor camp in Northmere to break rocks for the rest of her life.

“Cindy… no, Duchess, please calm down.”

Margaret’s voice had finally lost its usual arrogance. Panc crept in despite her effort to hide it.

She forced a stiff smile, trying to ease the tension in the room.

“Now that this has happened, we’re still family,” she said “Why drag it to the High Court and let outsiders laugh at us?” She walked toward the wooden crates, her yes flickering. “How about this? You leave the account books with me, I’ll gather Crystal Palace’s finance team tonight and check everything carefully. If Maria really stole the money, I promise we’ll repay Isabella in full first thing tomorrow morning. It’s late. There’s no need to make such a fuss.”

“Margaret, do you think I’m three years old?” I let out a short, sharp laugh and exposed her delay tactic without mercy. “I’m used to army life. I don’t have the patience to wait until tomorrow.”
