Chapter 32 Going Home

Cindy’s POV:

Evelyn was shaking all over. Her nails dug deep into her palms until blood ran down her fingers.

She glared at me with hatred, then turned to James in despair. The light in her eyes finally went out.

“Enough. I’ve seen enough of this farce.”

I stood up straight and brushed off my sleeves, even though there was no dust on them. I just wanted to shake off the filth clinging to this place.

“Priscilla, stop with your fake speeches,” I said coldly. “Your affection is worth shit.” I lifted my chin and spoke clearly. “The Bond-Breaking Order is complete. From this moment on, James, the Duskfang Pack, and I are done. Completely. From now on, we stand as enemies.”

I swept my gaze over her. “And don’t try to trap me with talk of family or duty. What belongs to me, I take with me. The people who are mine, I protect. As for you all…”

My eyes moved across the miserable faces of the pack members. Then I turned to Prince Adam and softened my expression with proper respect.

“Your Highness, I’m tired of this farce. Let’s go.”

Prince Adam looked at me with clear approval. He nodded slightly, then cast a cold glance at James and Priscilla. “Grand Duchess, please,” he said. “This filthy place is indeed not worth staying in.”

I bent down and lifted Jewel into my arms. She was weak and barely conscious. Without looking back, I stepped out of the gates of Moonwhisper Residence.

Behind me came Priscilla’s desperate cries, Evelyn’s hysterical screams, and James’s late, meaningless apologies.

But what did any of that have to do with me?

The wind and snow rushed toward my face. Instead of cold, I felt free.

My road lay ahead in Northmere, along with my pack. Those people I left behind were doomed to rot slowly in the swamp of regret.

The moment I left the Duskfang Pack, the sky over Northmere seemed to sense the breaking of an old bond and the birth of something new. Heavy snow began to fall, thick and endless.

The carriage wheels rolled over frozen ground with a dull, steady sound. I lifted the curtain and looked back one last time at the fortress that had trapped me for a full year. Beneath layers of dark clouds, the Duskfang territory looked gloomy, narrow, and suffocating. Like a grave that had swallowed the youth, blood, and tears of countless women.

Snow whipped against my face. The cold touched my skin, but it no longer pierced me. Instead, I felt a long-lost warmth deep in my soul. This was Northmere’s snow. This was the snow of the Silverpeak Pack,

It carried the sharp scent of freedom. It welcomed a wanderer home. It washed away the last traces of James-the stale, disgusting presence that no longer was mine.

Under the protection of Prince Adam’s royal convoy, our carriages rolled forward in force, leaving the lands of the Duskfang Pack far behind.

Ahead of us were rows of royal guards in gold armor. In the snowstorm, they looked like a wall of steel.

James did not chase after us.

Maybe the backlash from the broken mate bond left him too badly hurt to move. Maybe the public humiliation crushed him. Or maybe. Prince Adam’s elite guard frightened him into silence. That man, who once believed he controlled everything, did not have the courage for one last plea or outburst.

But it didn’t matter anymore. That past-full of betrayal, schemes, and shame-was finally left behind. As the carriage wheels rolled forward, it was buried under the endless wind and snow.

I lowered the curtain, shutting out the cold. Inside the carriage, I felt warm and secure.

The silver charcoal in the heater burned bright, giving off soft crackling sounds.

Jewel lay on a thick cushioned couch. With a werewolf’s body, as long as the injury wasn’t fatal, recovery came fast. The wounds on her skin had already healed.

Still, she was only an Omega. The damage to her bones and organs would take more time.
