The council hall still smelled of blood and crushed herbs. The scent hung in the air, refusing to fade.
A scribe stood at the front, reading out the losses and the results.
Each number landed like a heavy stone in my chest.
“We lost 3,200 soldiers. 5,000 more were badly hurt. The enemy lost about 20,000. Among them were 500 high-ranking vampires above the knights…”
The room fell silent.
This was a hard-won victory. If the Spearhead Squad had not arrived when they did, our losses would have been far worse.
“Read the results for Cindy’s team,” I said, cutting in. My eyes moved to the corner, where a silver-haired figure was wrapping a fresh bandage around her arm.
The scribe flipped a page. His voice rose, shaking with disbelief.
“Grand Duchess confirmed kills: 2 vampire viscounts, 12 barons, 85 senior knights. Lower-rank vampires are too many to count-estimated over 300.”
“Viola … confirmed-”
The hall went silent.
Every commander stared at Cindy, including the veterans who had doubted my choices, who looked stunned.
One person. One night. Over 400 enemies killed.
What did that even mean? It was the kind of record only a war god could leave behind.
Was this the true strength of the Silverpeak bloodline?
I stood and walked up to her.
She looked up. The killing intent had not fully faded from her silver eyes, yet they were clear and steady.
“Cindy, step forward and take order.”
She gritted her teeth against the pain and stood straight, saluting.
“For your outstanding performance last night and for turning the tide of battle,” I said, “I hereby promote you to Battalion Commander, in charge of the First Assault Unit of the Vanguard Camp.”
I turned to the four standing behind her. “Viola, Forrest, Tyrone, Sterling. You are promoted to Company

Commanders. You will serve under Cindy’s command.”
“Thank you, Your Highness!” All five answered together, their voices firm.
Applause filled the hall-real applause, born of respect.
“Dismissed. Cindy, stay,” I said.
The hall emptied, leaving only the two of us.
I looked at her young but unyielding face. My chest stung with pain.
I wanted to tell her the truth, but this truth could destroy her.

“Cindy,” I said softly. I pulled out a sealed letter from my coat. “This was sent by a high-level spy I planted inside the vampire ranks. He barely made it out alive. Do you know why the vampires sent their entire army this time, even joining forces with Uclela?”
“Because Evelyn had done something far worse than massacre a vampire town. That was an excuse; the truth is … read it.”
I took a deep breath and handed her the letter.
Cindy took the letter and opened it. I watched her pupils shrink in an instant. Her fingers clenched the paper so hard her knuckles turned white.
The temperature in the hall seemed to drop at once. A terrifying killing intent burst from her body. Her wolf spirit was furious.
The letter said this: During a border clash, Evelyn captured a vampire prince who was only 16 years old. He was the biological son of the Vampire Emperor. He was also the beloved nephew of Franklin.
To force information out of him and to satisfy her twisted cruelty, Evelyn publicly humiliated the boy. She then castrated him in public and hung his naked body outside the camp, exposed to the sun.
The proud young prince could not bear the shame. He ended his own life.
To protect the royal family’s honor, the vampires never made this public.
Franklin, the Vampire Grand Marshal and commander of the allied army, swore revenge.
He vowed to make the entire werewolf race pay.
At the time, the strongest and most famous force guarding the north was the Silverpeak Pack.
Franklin mistakenly believed it was Evelyn’s pack, or perhaps he wanted to first shatter the strongest shield of the werewolves.
So, the Silverpeak Pack was wiped out. No one was spared. Not the elderly. Not the children. It was a burial offering for that young prince.
