Spike’s smile froze on his face. He stared at James in disbelief. “What?” he demanded. “A bond-breaking order? You banished her?”
James went pale. He tried to explain. “It’s not…
it’s-”
“It’s because she was jealous!” Evelyn cut in sharply, her voice shrill and biting. “The Wolf King ordered me to become the Luna of Duskfang Pack. She was petty and couldn’t accept another woman. She chose exile just to break the bond! And now she’s come here to show off and take revenge on us!”
Bang!
Before anyone could react, Spike’s massive fist smashed into James’s face.
James flew sideways and slammed hard into a stone pillar. Blood burst from his mouth, along with two broken teeth.
“You worthless piece of shit!” Spike roared. Cold energy exploded from him, and the temperature in the hall dropped fast. “I’ll beat you to death myself! The old Alpha trusted you with his daughter. Is this how you repay that trust? By banishing her? You dare to say that word? You think you qualify for that? When has a Silverpeak she-wolf ever been treated like this?”
Spike charged forward, ready to strike again. James dared not fight back. He could only curl up on the floor.
“Stop! Don’t you dare hit him!” Evelyn screamed as she threw herself over James. Her eyes were bloodshot, wild with rage. She shouted at Spike like she had lost her mind. “Who do you think you are? What is Cindy, anyway? She’s just an orphan with no parents! Silverpeak Pack? Haha! Don’t make me laugh!”
Driven by anger and the urge to hurt, Evelyn shouted out the cruelest truth of all.
“You still treat her like she’s precious?” she yelled. “Silverpeak Pack has been wiped out for over a year! The whole pack was slaughtered. Not a single living soul left! Silverpeak Pack, my foot! It’s nothing but a pile of corpses! Cindy is nothing more than a stray with no home! What right does she have to compare herself to me?”
The moment those words left her mouth, the entire hall fell into shock.
Adam’s wine glass shattered in his hand with a sharp crack, crushed into powder.
I stood in the shadow by the side door. When I heard those words, it felt like someone had torn my heart out while I was still breathing.
The air in the hall froze.
Every officer stared in shock, especially the older werewolves who had once fought side by side with my father. Their eyes were wide, as if they had just heard the most cruel and unthinkable curse in the world.

“You said… what?” Spike swayed on his feet. All the color drained from his rough, weathered face. “You said Silverpeak Pack … what happened to them?”
Seeing their reactions, a twisted sense of pleasure rose inside Evelyn.
She felt like she had finally won. Like she had finally dragged that untouchable Grand Duchess down into the mud.
“I said Silverpeak Pack was wiped out,” Evelyn sneered, her voice dripping with malice. “Before attacking Southreach, the vampire alliance went to Northmere. Benjamin-that old fool-and his entire pack, hundreds of them, were all killed. Not a single body left behind. Do you understand now? Cindy is nothing.”
