Chapter 76 Unfinished Revenge

Cindy’s POV:

It was late at night; everyone had been dismissed. Only Prince Adam and I remained in the study.

Candlelight flickered, casting shadows over the battle maps on the wall.

Prince Adam poured me a cup of hot tea. His face was serious. The wild energy he showed on the battlefield was gone. What remained was a calm and heavy focus.

“Cindy,” he said, sitting across from me. His fingers tapped the table lightly. “You stopped Spike and the others in the hall. I know you’re not a coward. You hate Evelyn more than anyone. So, why didn’t you take the chance to kill her?”

Diana lifted her head inside my mind. She had wanted to tear Evelyn apart too, but I had forced her to hold back.

I took a small sip of tea before answering. “Evelyn deserves to die,” I said quietly. “But she can’t die by our hands. The vampire armies are gathering. They’re planning something called the Red Hunt. They’re coming for revenge. If Evelyn dies by me, the vampires who fail to get their revenge will turn that hatred elsewhere. They’ll do what Evelyn did: slaughter innocent werewolf civilians to vent their anger. I won’t allow that.”

“So, Evelyn must die by vampire hands,” Prince Adam said slowly. Approval showed in his eyes. “You’re thinking far ahead.”

“There’s more,” I said, gripping the cup tighter. My voice turned bitter. “The Grand Marshal in charge of that region back then was my grandfather. Evelyn committed those crimes under his watch.

“Even though my grandfather knew nothing about it, if the truth comes out, it becomes a failure of command. Worse, it could look like he allowed the atrocities to happen.”

“If that happens,” I continued, “the country will lose its moral ground. And my grandfather’s lifetime of honor will be destroyed.”

I lowered my head. “That’s why I can’t speak,” I said. I closed my eyes as tears slid down my face. “I can’t tell Viola. I can’t tell Spike. If they learn the truth, they’ll kill Evelyn no matter the cost. It could even cause a military revolt. Franklin would strike the moment chaos breaks out.”

I shook my head. “I can’t let Southreach soldiers die for my own personal hatred. For the sake of our kingdom and my grandfather and to keep the sacrifice of Silverpeak Pack from turning into a filthy political scandal, I had to endure this.”

This pain to endure this hurt more than broken bones.,

I had to watch the true culprit walk freely in front of me. I had to swallow her insults and keep the truth

buried.

Prince Adam looked at me, the shock and pain clear in his eyes.

He stood and walked over, resting a hand gently on my shoulder.

“Cindy,” he paused, searching for words. “You’re carrying far more than you should.”

“Maybe that’s an alpha’s duty,” I said with a weak smile, wiping my tears away. “My father used to say a spine isn’t meant to bend. It’s meant to carry mountains.”

“Then listen carefully,” Prince Adam said, his voice firm and steady. “If you choose to endure for the greater good, I’ll stand with you. Evelyn’s crimes will stay hidden for now, but I will remember this.”

He took a golden command token from the shelf and placed it in front of me.
