The journey begins 2
I wasn’t sure I trusted something that big.
Especially when it apparently moved without horses.
Sera opened one of the doors.
“Get in.”
I looked inside.
The seats looked surprisingly comfortable. That wasn’t what I expected from something made of metal. I leaned closer to get a better look. It still didn’t seem entirely trustworthy.
That felt slightly offensive.
I climbed in carefully.
Then immediately started looking around.
Everything was different.
The seats.
The doors.
The strange controls near the front.
I pointed.
“What does that do?”
“Nothing you’re allowed to touch.”
I pointed somewhere else.
“What about that?”
“No.”
“This?”
“No.”
I frowned.
The vehicle suddenly made a sound.
I jumped.
The healers burst into laughter.
Sera wasn’t much better.
The journeys 2
Hooked around.
“What was that?”
“The vehicle.”
I stared.
“Is something wrong with it?”
“No.”
“Then why is it making that noise?”
That earned another round of laughter.
I was beginning to suspect nobody planned on answering my questions.
The vehicle started moving.
I grabbed the seat immediately.
Sera noticed.
“You know we’re not falling, right?”
“I don’t know that.”
That earned another laugh.
Outside the window, Wraithbone started passing by.
The pack house disappeared behind us.
Then the training grounds.
Then the outer buildings.
I found myself staring.
Everything looked different from inside the vehicle.
The world seemed to move faster.
Trees passed by.
Roads stretched ahead.
The territory rolled beyond the windows.
I couldn’t stop watching.
“How fast are we going?”
One of the guards answered.

The joumerging
“Not very”
That felt concerning.
Because it already seemed fast,
The road stretched into the distance.
Other vehicles appeared occasionally.
Each one earned another question.
Sera eventually stopped trying to answer all of them.
I couldn’t blame her.
There were a lot.
After a while the territory started changing.
Buildings appeared more frequently.
The roads widened.
The number of people increased.
I pressed closer to the window.
“What is that?”
“A shop.”
I pointed again.
“And that?”
“Another shop.”
I pointed a third time.
“What about that one?”
The healer beside me sighed dramatically.
“Also a shop.”
I ignored her.
Everything was new.

Chare
Everything was interesting.
Ashcrest had never prepared me for any of this.
For years my world had been limited to a shack, a chain, and whatever work waited for me each morning.

Now I was crossing roads! never knew existed.
Seeing things I’d never imagined.
Experiencing things–most wolves probably considered normal.
The thought stayed with me for the rest of the drive.
Then the settlement appeared.
I forgot every other thought immediately.
Buildings stretched in every direction.
People filled the streets.
Vehicles moved constantly.
Voices carried through the air.
Music drifted from somewhere nearby.
I stared through the window.
