There wasn’t anything I could say that would mean more than those words already did. I reached across the space between us and rested my hand against her cheek. She leaned into
it without thinking, and I closed the distance between us and kissed her.
It wasn’t a long kiss.
Just enough to tell her what I couldn’t find the words for. When I drew back, she was still smiling.
“I love seeing you like this,” I said.
“So do I.”
She took my hand and held it between both of hers.
“I never thought life could be this simple.”
“It won’t always be.”
“I know.”
She looked into my eyes.
“But as long as I have you, I think I’ll be alright.”
I brushed my thumb over her hand.
“You will.”
“How do you know?”
“Because you won’t be facing any of it alone again.”
She looked at me for a long moment.
“I’m glad you accepted me that day.”
I frowned slightly.
“In the shack.”

Astmple night
I knew exactly which day she meant.
“I didn’t even have a wolf then,” she said. “I wasn’t an Alpha. I wasn’t a Beta. I wasn’t anything”
“You were Isla.”
She smiled, but there was sadness in it.
“A lot of Alphas wouldn’t have seen it that way.”
“They would’ve seen a weak human standing in front of them.”
I didn’t answer.
“They would’ve rejected me without even thinking about it.”
