By the time we reached the pack house again, the quiet we’d found in the gardens had settled both of us. It wouldn’t last, but it had been enough. The Council would arrive soon, and Wraithbone needed to be ready. There was still much to do before the sun went down.

“Alpha King, Luna.”

I looked toward the voice and found Raith waiting near the entrance with two warriors standing behind him. He inclined his head before dismissing the men with a quiet gesture. They left without question, leaving the two of us to speak while Isla remained at my side.

“The patrols have been changed as ordered,” he said.

I nodded once. Raith rarely wasted words, and I respected that about hirn. If he brought me a report, it meant everything had already been checked twice. His attention to detail had earned my trust years ago.

“Anything unusual?”

“Nothing outside the walls.”

“Only the leadership knows the Council arrives tomorrow,” Raith said. “The pack believes the extra patrols are because of Torvin’s death.”

He paused for a moment before continuing. His expression told me there was something else on his mind. I waited for him to finish.

“A few pack members have noticed more warriors around the council wing.”

“They were bound to.”

Raith accepted the answer without argument. He understood why the extra security couldn’t remain hidden forever. My concern wasn’t whether people noticed but whether they understood the reason.

“I haven’t answered their questions.”

“Good.”

There was no reason to spread unnecessary worry through the pack. They would learn what they needed to know when the time came. Until then, silence protected everyone.

I looked toward the entrance before turning back to him.

“I want trusted warriors outside the council chamber, the guest quarters, and the library.”

“It’ll be done.”

“No one enters those areas without permission.”
