The queen awakens
(Caius)
The silence inside the chamber felt endless.
Nobody moved after Isla spoke. Every elder, every witness, and every guard stared between her and Evander. Even the scribes had stopped writing.
Evander recovered first.
“Those are serious accusations,” he said. “Visions are not always complete. They can be misunderstood.”
I never looked away from him.
“You looked surprised before you spoke,” I said.
“Why?”
His expression remained calm.
“I was concerned for Luna Isla.”
“You were afraid.”
“I have served this Council for decades.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
Silence settled over the chamber once again.
Pryor stepped forward from the side of the chamber.
“Alpha King.”
I looked at him.
“What is it?”
“There are records that may settle this.”
Evander turned toward him.
“What records?”
Pryor met his eyes.
“The Council archives.”
Evander answered immediately.
“The archives contain nothing about this.”
Pryor remained composed.

“You answered before I explained which records meant.”
The other elders turned toward Evander.
I watched him carefully.
Uncertainty crossed his face before it disappeared.
The Chief Elder leaned forward.
“Pryor.”
“What records are you referring to?”
“The inspection requests submitted during Rodan’s rule.”
The chamber became quiet again.
Pryor continued.
“King Caius already proved that several inspections were delayed.”
He looked toward the Council.
“I request permission to compare those delays with the Council correspondence.”
The Chief Elder nodded.
“Granted.”
Evander spoke before Pryor could continue.
“That will accomplish nothing.”
I turned to him.
“You seem eager to stop the search.”
“I am trying to prevent this Council from wasting time.”
“Finding the truth is never a waste of time.”
His jaw tightened.
Pryor remained where he was.
He watched the exchange without interruption. His expression revealed nothing.
Isla stood beside me.
I could still feel our bond.
Her vision had ended, but the anger and pain inside her had not.
I tightened my grip on her hand.

Her fury crashed through our bond. Its strength stole my breath. It wasn’t only anger anymore.
It was years of suffering demanding to be answered.
Isla stepped forward.

Her eyes never left Evander. Every muscle in her body had become rigid, and I could feel Vaela pressing harder against the bond.
‘I won’t let him stand there,’ Vaela growled.
‘He doesn’t deserve another breath.’
I stepped in front of Isla.
“Isla.”
She never looked at me.
Each breath came harder than the last. The air around her began to change.
“Look at me.”
“You heard him.”
Her voice shook.
“He did this.”
“He knew.”
“He ordered everything.”
I nodded.
“I know.”
She finally looked at me.
Her eyes filled with tears that never fell. The pain inside her was giving way to something far more dangerous.
‘Move,’ Vaela snarled.
‘Let me have him.’
‘Not like this,’ I answered.
‘He will answer for what he has done.’
‘Now, Vaela replied.
‘He dies now!
The pressure inside our bond became almost too much to bear.

A silver light appeared beneath Isla’s feet.
Gasps spread through the chamber as the light climbed around her. No one dared move.
“Isla.”
“Stay with me.”
She tried.

I could feel her fighting for control, but the anger was stronger than anything she had ever carried. Vaela refused to retreat.
Power burst from her.
The torches danced against the stone walls. Every window shook beneath the presence of a Celestial
wolf.
Then the change began.
Silver fur spread across her body with the color of moonlight touched by ash. Darker markings surrounded her paws where the chains had once rested. Her silver eyes burned with fury as Vaela answered the challenge herself.
My mate no longer stood before the Council as a woman.
She stood before them in her Celestial wolf form.
Nobody moved.
Every eye remained fixed on her. The chamber had become so quiet that every breath could be heard.
Then Vaela lifted her head.
Her howl shook the chamber.
It rolled through the stone walls with power unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Grief, fury, authority, and command filled every note.
The effect was immediate.
Every wolf in the chamber dropped to one knee.
Some collapsed onto both knees. Others fought the pressure before finally giving in.
The six other elders bowed their heads.
The Chief Elder caught himself against the table before sinking to one knee. Evander struggled against the weight pressing down on him.
He failed.
His knees struck the stone floor.
The guards followed.

The witnesses did the same.
Within moments, every wolf in the chamber knelt before her.
Only one wolf remained standing
Me.
Vorak stood calm inside me.
‘She is our Queen,’ he said.
“We bow only by choice.”
I never looked away from Islą.

Her silver coat carried the color of moonlight touched by ash. The darker markings around her paws reminded me of the chains she had survived.
She stood above every wolf in the chamber.
Not because she demanded power.
Because power answered to her.
The howl faded.
Silence returned.
No one dared rise.
Every wolf remained where they had fallen.
Then Vaela turned her silver eyes toward Evander.
He looked up from one knee.
The calm he had worn throughout the hearing was gone.
He wasn’t looking at Isla with doubt.
He was looking at her with fear.
Evander lowered his head.
He could no longer deny what stood before him. The Celestial wolf he had spent years trying to erase now stood before him.
Everything he had built was beginning to fall apart.
