The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 253

Where she was meant to ge

Where she was meant to go

I read the two lines again before folding the parchment halfway.

Neither of us spoke. The words carried too much meaning to rush past them. Whoever had written them expected another Alpha King to understand what they meant.

If the child survives, do not search where she disappeared.

Search where she was meant to go.

I placed the parchment beside the birth record.

“They’re connected.”

Isla looked from one document to the other.

“You think they were written by the same person?”

“I think they were left for the same reason.”

She leaned closer.

“They wanted to stop someone from making the wrong choice.”

“Yes.”

I lowered my eyes to the journals again,

“Every clue we’ve found has pointed us away from Ashcrest.”

She thought about that for a moment.

“The journal told us my mother is alive.”

I nodded.

“The birth record told us part of her name.”

She looked at the folded parchment.

“And now this tells us not to search where I disappeared.”

I looked at her.

“Someone expected another Alpha King to believe the answer was in Ashcrest.”

“But it isn’t.”

“No.”

Silence settled between us once again.

reached for the journal the loose parchment had fallen from. This time I searched every page instead of Teading time by line. Whoever had hidden one message could have hidden another.

Most of the entries spoke about ordinary matters.

Pack agreements.

Trade disputes.

Seasonal gatherings.

Nothing connected to Celestials.

Then my thumb caught something unusual.

Several pages near the back were thicker than the rest.

I stopped turning them.

“Isla.”

She looked up.

“What is it?”

I pressed two fingers against the edge of the page.

“These were joined together.”

She looked more closely.

“They’re supposed to be separate.”

“They are.”

I looked at the binding.

“But someone sealed them.”

She stood and walked around the table until she was beside me.\

Together we examined the journal.

The pages hadn’t been damaged by time.

Someone had carefully joined them so they appeared to be one sheet instead of two.

“They were hiding something.”

“They were.”

I studied the edge again.

The work had been done with patience.

Most wolves would never notice it.

Where she was meant to go

Hreached into the drawer beneath the table and removed a thin letter opener.

My father had used it wherever old records needed to be handled.

I slipped the edge between the two pages.

Very little pressure was needed.

The pages separated.

A smaller sheet rested inside.

Neither of us reached for it immediately.

It had been hidden so well that generations of Alpha Kings could have turned these pages without ever finding it.

Whoever placed it there had trusted that one day someone would look closely enough.

I lifted the hidden sheet from the journal.

The writing was faded but still clear enough to read.

Only a few lines had been written.

*The child was never meant for Ashcrest.

I looked at Isla.

She had already read the first sentence.

I lowered my eyes again.

*If she reaches Ashcrest, the promise has already been broken.

A long silence followed.

“The promise,” Isla said quietly.

“What promise?”

“I don’t know.”

Neither did I.

I turned the page over.

Nothing.

Only the two lines.

No name.

No signature.

No explanation.

Where she was meant to go

placed the hidden sheet beside the birth record

Three documents.

Three different hands.

All pointing toward the same truth.

Someone had planned Isla’s life long before she was born.

Someone else had changed that plan.

I looked at the journals surrounding us.

“My ancestors weren’t simply recording history.”

Isla met my eyes.

“They were protecting it.”

I nodded once.

“And warning the Alpha Kings who came after them.”

She looked back at the hidden page.

“If Ashcrest was never my destination…”

Her words faded.

I finished the thought for her.

“Then somewhere there is another place we haven’t found.”

The library felt different after that.

The answers no longer seemed buried inside old books.

They were leading us somewhere.

We simply hadn’t discovered where yet.

I looked back at the hidden page.

“If this is true, we’ve been asking the wrong question.”

Isla studied the two lines again.

“You mean we’ve been asking where I disappeared.”

“Yes.”

“And we should be asking where I was supposed to go.”

I nodded.

“These journals have given us everything they can.”

She looked around the library.

“You think our answers aren’t here anymore.”

“I think the next piece isn’t waiting on these shelves.”

Her eyes returned to the birth record.

“It’s waiting somewhere else.”

I folded the hidden page and placed it with the other documents.

“Zeron is searching Ashcrest.”

She looked at me.

“And if he finds nothing?”

“Then we stop searching inside Wraithbone and Ashcrest.”

“Where do we go?”

“I don’t know yet.”

I looked at the divided circle carved into the birth record.

“But I’m certain the trail doesn’t end here.”

Isla looked at the records one last time before gathering them into a careful stack.

“Then we wait for Zeron.”

“Yes.”

I closed the journal and rested my hand on its worn cover.

“If he finds the next piece, we’ll know where this trail leads.”

“And if he doesn’t?”

I met her eyes.

“Then we leave Wraithbone ourselves.”

She didn’t hesitate.

“Wherever the truth is.”

I nodded once.

“That’s where we’ll go.”

Our next step no longer depended on another hidden page waiting inside these journals.

The message from Zeron arrived before midday. Pryor brought it directly to the library, where Isla and I had remained after finishing with the journals. One look at his face told me Zeron had found something worth reporting. I took the letter from him and opened it.

“Cael is alive.”

Isla rose from her chair. Pryor remained beside the table while I continued reading. Zeron had found Cael hiding in an abandoned healer’s cottage several miles outside Ashcrest. He had tried to escape when Zeron arrived.

“Did Zeron catch him?” Isla asked.

“He did.” I read the next few lines before looking at her. “Cael is being held somewhere only Zeron and two warriors know about.”

“Good.”

“There is more.”

Zeron had searched the cottage after taking Cael. Beneath one of the floorboards, he’d found several old documents wrapped in cloth. Most meant nothing to him, but one contained a symbol he recognized from Pryor’s message. I already knew which symbol before1 reached the next line

“The divided circle,” Isla said.

“Yes.”

I continued reading. The document wasn’t another birth record or another message from an Alpha King. It was a map. One location north of Wraithbone had been marked with the divided circle.

Pryor stepped closer.

“Does the place have a name?”

“It does.”

I looked at Isla before reading it aloud.
