Book 2:Chapter 62
Extra continued
Gabe
When Piper finally left, my father didn’t come out of his study. He stayed locked inside, silent and alone. I didn’t bother waiting for him. I simply turned and headed toward my quarters.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a text from Danae.
She was coming over.
A small spark of relief mixed with nervousness settled in my chest. Now that she had finally gotten her wish, her brother’s life was exactly what she had dreamed it would be – it was time we faced! what we really were to each other.
Yes, she was my mate.
But I was tired of hiding it from everyone. I was tired of pretending. I wanted my fucking mate,
damn it.
I was exhausted from the secrecy, from always holding back. So it was good we were finally going to talk. We needed to come to a conclusion. And if she didn’t want me… I would have no other
choice but to reject her.
Even though I knew it would break me.
Still, I deserved happiness too. I deserved someone who could love me openly, cherish me, and let me love them back without shame or fear. I had spent too many years living in the shadows of my
father’s resentment. I refused to live the rest of my life hiding my mate as well.
So I waited for her.
Before she even entered my bedroom, I had already sensed her presence. The door opened softly,
and Danae stepped inside.
“Gabe, there is something I want to tell you,” she said, her voice carrying a hint of nervousness.
I remained seated, watching her calmly. If this had been before, I would have jumped up like a lost
puppy desperate for its owner. But not today.
She noticed my unusual stillness and frowned. “Why? Is something wrong?” she asked, moving
closer to me.
I smiled slowly, a bittersweet curve of my lips. “Yes… something is very wrong with me.”

She stopped in her tracks, eyes widening slightly.
“Was it something your father did?” she asked carefully.
I shook my head. “No. You.”
She blinked, clearly confused.
“Me? What did I do?” Danae asked, confusion clear in her voice.

I stood up and walked straight to her. “Oh please, don’t behave like you don’t know,” I said, grabbing her arms firmly. Her eyes widened in surprise. “If you do not want me, Danae, just tell me. Stop
coming to me only when you want to take something from me.”
My voice carried a little hurt I couldn’t completely hide. I let go of her arms and turned away,/
needing some distance before I said something I would regret.
“You do not even know what I want to tell you,” she started.
I stopped and turned back to face her. “Does it even matter though?”
She nodded and stepped closer to me. “I was going to say… we should make it public.”
Her words caught me completely off guard. I froze.
“What did you just say?” I asked, certain I hadn’t heard her correctly.
She chuckled softly at my shocked expression. “I was hoping we can make it public, Gabe. I know
I’ve been selfish, and I am-”
I didn’t let her finish.
I bent my head and kissed her, pouring every bit of pent-up frustration, longing, and love into that
kiss. It lasted long and deep, both of us breathing heavily when I finally pulled back.
“You do not know what you have just done, Danae,” I said, my voice low and rough.
She nodded, eyes shining. “No, I do. I love you, Gabe.”
A warmth I hadn’t felt in a long time spread through my chest. “I love you too,” I replied, meaning
every word.

“Mom! Dad and Julian are back!”
Winter’s excited little voice echoed through the house. I jumped up from the couch, feeling just as

Helio had started taking Julian to pack meetings, saying he wanted to prepare him early for when the time came to take over. If it were left to Helio, he would hand over the title right now, but we
both knew it wasn’t the right moment yet.
When we reached them, Violet had already beaten us there.
“Duhh,” she teased the moment she saw us.
I laughed and exclaimed, “Seriously?” which only made her burst into louder laughter.
My eyes immediately found Helio. He was already carrying Winter in his arms, kissing her cheeks
while she giggled happily.
We had adopted her just two years after we got married. Helio had called her our anniversary gift, and he was right. From the day she came into our lives, Winter had been pure sunshine. Her biological parents had tragically died in a plane crash when she was only five months old. And yes, she was human, just like me.
“Aren’t you going to hug me too?” Julian asked, pretending to be jealous.
