The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 137

Chapter 137

“Go ahead,” Nicole said with a smile. “I’m not stopping you.”

Mary’s expression hardened. “Fine! We’ll see!”

This wasn’t the moment to back down. The second she showed weakness, she would lose.

Mary straightened her back and warned, “Don’t regret this!”

Then she turned and walked away.

Nicole didn’t move, just watched her leave.

Mary clenched her teeth in anger. If Nicole refused the easy way, then she would make sure everyone in Westbridge knew about the storage space. She wanted to see where Nicole could hide after that.

A treasure like that only brought trouble. She was determined to make Nicole a hunted stray.

With her mind made up, Mary quickened her pace down the stairs.

Just as she reached the stairwell, a dark shape lunged straight at her.

“Woof!”

“Ahhh!”

Mary was already on edge and freezing. The sudden attack made her scream as she instinctively staggered back.

A sharp sound cut through the air.

Pain exploded in her chest, so intense that she couldn’t breathe. She looked down and saw the blade driven clean through from behind, its tip jutting out of her chest, slick with blood.

“What gave you the guts to threaten me?”

Nicole’s voice came cold from behind her.

Mary’s mouth opened wide, but no sound came out. Her eyes filled with shock. Nicole actually dared to kill her?

“I don’t care if you’re some transmigrator, reincarnator, system user, whatever you think you are. You ended up like this, and still think you’re chosen or untouchable?”

Nicole gripped the handle, twisted hard, then pulled the blade free. Blood dripped steadily down its edge.

Mary collapsed with a heavy thud. Gasping for air, she struggled to speak, her eyes bulging as her skeletal hand reached toward Nicole.

“H-How…”

“There was a way out, and you didn’t take it. You chose this instead.” Nicole’s gaze was ice-cold. “In a disaster like this, everyone survives on their own strength. You set your sights on what wasn’t yours. That’s on you.”

Knowing about the storage space meant nothing if Mary couldn’t take it.

As for what Mary really was, Nicole didn’t care. Whatever the truth, eliminating the threat was enough.

The freezing temperature and heavy blood loss stiffened Mary’s body quickly. Even in death, her wide, staring eyes never closed.

It wasn’t even five yet, but the sky had already darkened into a dull gray.

Nicole didn’t linger. She took Cola and headed downstairs.

Cola looked reluctant to leave, still bristling with aggression as he glanced back before trotting after her.

Switching back into her skates, Nicole glided toward home.

Cola sprinted freely, full of energy, as he followed.

Two legs couldn’t match four. The dog quickly pulled ahead, leaving Nicole behind.

Cola had been trained by Zeph, and it showed. He ran like lightning, steady and powerful, a formidable

presence.

Nicole couldn’t help calling out, “Cola!”
