Four legs made all the difference. Cola moved like a demon on the ice, weaving, dodging, and darting around until the attackers were completely thrown off.
They weren’t just after the dog; they were vicious enough to come for Nicole, too.
Instead of backing off, Nicole sped up and charged straight at them.
She flew across the ice at full speed, while the man with the steel pipe struggled in padded boots, slipping but refusing to give up the chase.
Nicole shot past him. Before he could even lift the pipe, she was already there, fast as lightning.
A loud crack rang out as his body went flying. Even with a thick hat on, his skull split open under the swing of her golf club. He hit the ground, eyes wide, blood pouring from his mouth. Within seconds, he stopped breathing.
Nicole didn’t hesitate. Anyone who came at her or Cola got met head-on with the golf club as she tore
past.
They were all robbers lying in wait. Leaving them alive just meant more victims later.
After Nicole knocked down several more, the others, trying to close in, finally realized something was wrong. However, the girl in the red deep-freeze suit was already gone from sight.
They thought their people had just slipped and fallen, until they got close and saw the cracked skulls.
A young girl could hit that hard?
Shock flickered across their faces, but it was gone just as quickly. The survivors immediately started stripping the dead, pulling off every piece of warm clothing and putting it on themselves without hesitation, even while it still held body heat.
Starving, they stared at the bodies with complicated expressions, swallowing hard again and again. In the end, they held onto the last shred of restraint, turning away and trudging off.
Not even they knew how long that shred of self-control would last.
Cola ran faster and faster, tongue lolling out, more excited by the second. Glancing back at the human chasing him, he skidded to a sudden stop like he was teasing her, daring her to catch him.
Just as Nicole was about to reach him, he bolted off again.
The two of them chased each other all the way back to Crownview Residences.
After that run, Cola looked full of life. His body was lean and powerful, his muscles moving clean under his fur, as if he were glowing.
Nicole tossed him a piece of jerky as a reward, then gathered her things and headed upstairs.

When she reached the 12th floor, a stumbling figure suddenly rushed out.
Nicole almost swung her blade before realizing it was Faye. Her face was deathly pale, like it had been
dusted with chalk.
One glance told Nicole that Faye didn’t have long left. There was barely any life left in her.
Whether Edward was just that good at sweet-talking her or she thought lying there earning food was easy, she had pushed her body too far for five pounds of food. Half of it was taken by Oliver, and the rest still had to support Edward and the others.
Nicole couldn’t understand it. Maybe this was what being blindly in love looked like.
Even with a second chance, she felt lucky she had woken up in time in her last life. Otherwise, she might’ve ended up worse than Faye.
“Nicole, help me. Please, help me…” Faye’s voice was hoarse, her body swaying, her dull eyes holding onto the last bit of light.
Nicole asked, “Help you how?”
“I-I won’t stop bleeding, and I’ve got a fever. Can you give me some medicine? I don’t want to die…”
