Chapter 169
Finally, the 18th floor had real weapons. Anyone reckless enough to rush up now was as good as dead.
“Hughie, we’re armed now!”
“Jeremy, time to step up!”
With weapons in hand, they felt like they owned the world. The two of them were instantly fired up, backs straightening with newfound confidence.
From today on, nothing was going to scare them!
Of course, no one paid attention to their inner hype.
Beatrice covered her nose and rushed up. When she saw Nelson on the ground, bleeding heavily, she froze. “What happened?”
Nicole pulled her blade free. “He got bought out by those collectors. Tried to stab us in the back.”
“D-Don’t kill me.” Nelson’s face was pale, his voice shaking as he begged. “I didn’t want to do it. They took my son. They said if I didn’t cooperate, I’d never see him again.”
Nicole didn’t bother arguing. “You know what you did. If you made the choice, you take the
consequences.”
Hiding when things got dangerous was one thing. Wanting protection from the 18th floor most of the time, then turning a knife on them when it mattered was another. If Nicole hadn’t been cautious, she might already be dead.
Nelson wasn’t the only one in 1703. Beatrice stepped forward and kicked the door hard.
“Everyone inside, listen up. Come out now, or I’ll finish him right here!”
Hughie, still catching his breath, stepped forward and planted his foot right on Nelson’s wound. Blood seeped out faster.
Did they really think their group ran some kind of charity, ready to forgive anything? Not a chance!
Nelson cried out in pain.
Jeremy, still not satisfied, added another kick. Seriously, did this guy think he could get away with that? Sneaking an attack like that?
Under the pounding blows on the door, 1703 finally opened.
A woman rushed out, eyes red, her face twisted with panic and anger. She dropped to her knees beside Nelson, holding him as she cried. “Honey, are you okay?”
Nelson’s voice was weak. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t save Billy.”

Billy Holt was their son, the one taken by the collectors.
Karen Holt snapped, turning on Nicole and the others. “What kind of monster are you? Why would you kill my husband?”
The group stared at her, stunned. “Your husband tried to stab us from behind, and somehow it’s our fault he didn’t succeed?”
“If it weren’t for you, my son wouldn’t have been taken! This is all because of you. And now, you want to kill my husband? You’re heartless!” she screamed.
“Your son being taken gives him the right to kill me?” Nicole let out a short laugh. “He can come at me, so why can’t I defend myself?”
Hughie’s temper flared.
