Seeing Zeph still standing there, Nicole grabbed a pair of men’s swim trunks for him.

They stepped into a spacious changing room. After confirming there were no cameras, she handed them over. “Wear these. I’ll change inside.”

The heat was intense. Within seconds, she could feel sweat forming.

Nicole slipped into her storage space, stripped off her heavy clothes, and awkwardly changed into the swimsuit.

To avoid trouble, she toned down her fair complexion with makeup, adding a few off-looking moles and faint blemishes. By the time she was done, she wasn’t striking enough to stand out, but not inviting enough for anyone to come up to her, either.

After a bit of effort, she stepped out…and immediately froze.

Her eyes landed on Zeph’s torso. For a second, she forgot to blink.

He had lean, defined muscles. Nothing exaggerated, just balanced and solid.

Without thinking, her gaze dropped lower.

Yeah… That checked out. He had a near perfect, athletic waist.

Her sudden appearance made Zeph pause. “What…”

Noticing his slight discomfort, Nicole quickly looked away and handed him the makeup. “You should probably use some of this, too.”

Better to avoid being recognized later.

Military disguise techniques and everyday makeup were two completely different things, though. Zeph clearly had no idea what to do with it.

Since this was a risky team effort, Nicole had no choice but to do it herself. The problem was that he was way too tall.

Nicole sighed and stepped closer. “Sit.”

Zeph did as told, looking away and keeping his eyes strictly forward.

She worked quickly, dabbing on uneven spots and adding rough stubble, softening his sharp features. His short haircut stood out too much, so she pulled a wig from her storage space.

By the time she was done, he looked like a completely different person.

Nicole finally stepped back, satisfied.

She stored their clothes and weapons in her storage space. If needed, they would signal each other.

After they walked out of the changing room, a male attendant approached and politely pressed the elevator button for the 28th floor.

As he turned away, his eyes lingered briefly on Nicole’s figure. It was impressive, but wasted on that face.

Zeph caught the look and frowned slightly.

It had been a while since they had used an elevator. Not having to climb stairs felt almost surreal.

Ding.

The doors opened on the 28th floor.

Noise hit them instantly. The hall was massive, packed with hundreds of people. There were bodies everywhere, skin in every shade, flashy outfits, and more than a few out-of-shape figures mixed in.

Nicole took a quiet breath, steadying herself.

Champagne, liquor, cigars, the smell of grilled meat, servers dressed in cat-themed outfits, neon lights flashing, lavish decorations everywhere.

For a moment, it felt like the world before everything fell apart.

Out there, people were starving, some desperate enough to eat dirt just to stay alive. Here, they indulged in pure excess, living better than before the collapse.
