Chapter 201
Buster really had been raised by the girl, and he had always been unusually smart.
One night during a late run, she ran into a mugger, and Buster didn’t hesitate to jump in. He fought the man off even after being stabbed, nearly losing his life in the process.
Later, when she started dating Edward, things began to fall apart. Edward was allergic to dog fur, and Buster clearly didn’t like him either. There was even a time he nearly bit Edward. 1
Edward made his stance clear. It was either him or the dog.
With no other option, the girl sold Buster to a shady meat buyer just to calm Edward down. She got 160 dollars for him and even used the money to buy Edward a shirt as an apology.
Afterward, the regret hit her harder than she expected. She cried more than once in private and even took Buster’s old toys to a park, where she set up a small memorial for him.
What she never expected was that Buster was still alive and had found a new owner.
She was upset, but she wasn’t foolish enough to admit the truth in front of the police.
No matter what, Buster was hers.
Nicole didn’t know why the girl had sold Cola in the first place, but anyone capable of doing it once could do it again.
“You keep saying he’s yours, but how are you planning to take care of him?” Nicole’s gaze turned icy.” You think I can’t tell what you and your friends are after? It’s written all over your faces.”
If the police hadn’t been there, Nicole wouldn’t have bothered arguing. She would have already dealt with
Called out like that, the girl flushed with anger, her voice rising. “That’s none of your business! Give the dog back!”
“Enough,” Jasper said, stepping in. “Since neither of you can prove ownership, we’ll let the dog decide. Whoever he goes to, that’s the owner.” 1
Everyone from the 18th floor felt confident. Cola ate whatever they ate, and if anything, he ate better than the rest of them. Meat was never in short supply for him, and even the bones were his.
It got to the point that Jeremy felt embarrassed of even thinking about chewing them himself.
With the police present, Nicole had no choice but to go along with it.
If Cola wanted to be with her, no one could take him. If he didn’t, forcing it would not change anything.
Even though it hurt to let go, she trusted him. In her last life, he had given up his life to save hers. She refused to believe he would choose a former owner like that.

Nicole loosened her grip and let the leash fall slack.
The girl immediately took advantage of it. She crouched down and opened her arms, her voice soft and pleading. “Buster, come here! Come to Mommy.”
Cola took a couple of steps forward, then stopped and glanced back, as if caught between two choices.
Nicole drew in a slow breath and clenched her jaw.
What a jerk!
Poppy grew anxious and tugged on Zeph’s sleeve. “I want Cola.”
Zeph rested a hand on her head. “It’s okay. We have to respect his choice.”
“Buster,” the girl called again, her voice trembling.
As Cola started walking toward her, the tension in her chest finally eased.
The people behind her couldn’t hide their excitement. Their eyes lit up with a kind of hunger that had nothing to do with affection.
To them, Cola wasn’t a companion. He was food. A dog his size could last them several meals!
Cola kept moving forward without looking back and soon broke into a run.
